Some of you old timers will reconize me as the minelab poster boy back before there was an internet just bbs and aol.....I said then that the soverign original was the real deal......no ONE believed then and I doubt any one will believe now......Well I recived my Etrac today....... yes I am a dealer and one of the first handfull in the USA when all the smart alecks and doubting Thomas's where calling them minnie labs like they where talkin about some puppy dog. I used an explorer for a year when they first came out and found some good stuff...... but I find good stuff with a shovel....went back to my old soverign.....it was not till I picked up the ETRAC today tha all my gripps where put to rest .....It is lite and MOST OF ALL THE deepest minelab I have ever seen and I have sold them "ALL" and after just finishing reading the manual for the first sit thru I am totally SHOCKED .....GOOD JOB Minelab This is "THE NUCLEAR BOMB OF METAL DETECTORS"........when it comes to A TRUE Detectorist......... "Its never about the MONEY.... its about can this dog HUNT" This dog will hunt.... Its about time minelab took their head out of their rear----view mirror.....AGAIN GOOD JOB minelab ! ........Now Please DO not Make any MORE....! No, I do not have THEM stacked UP,.... I have heard the tones are not the same as the explorer... that will bum me out worse than teh smart screen being opposite...I did notice in the video on MLO that the tone of that dime was pretty low.. they guy did a reset before starting so according to manual it should rest to conductive.. so I would think that dime should have been a much higher tone.. unless it was averaging with the iron, in which case I don't care as long as it gives a response.. he was swinging pretty fast, and in the field I would get the coil right over the target, so maybe that would give the higher tone.. if you have a chance or anyone else try that rusty nail test and see if the wiggle gets the tone up, or if that is that the normal tone on a dime in default

but usually you can work a signal up close to where it normally reads by only sweeping over the one target.. I just heard the tones are different... I would have liked to hear the dime by itself.. default mode doesnt use full variability either.. which I do, so that would raise that tone up a bit also

Hi Jim
Sounds like the old explorer when the Viability is turned up. I will check the iron test again this weekend . I took a dime and two cut nails Rusty put one on each side making a cross and it Hit with a good tone for me ....."blew me away"....It would handle two GOOD,..... but three SQUARE NAILS was just to many to stack on the little clad dime.. I do believe Chris is right though this a totally NEW machine......We will be learning this one for a while. But again you can bend it towards previous models.Hope this helps been awhile Jim hope you are doing fine.
Happy Trails
