The ring that fooled me twice

I had to go to town, so I brought the 70 and the 10" MF DD along. Nothing was going on at the county fairgrounds(it's only ok to detect there when there are no "events") so I stopped in(after I had two rings checked for diamonds....nope).

I went to the "old" picnic area and started collecting clad.(Ended up with a little over $4) I even found a 1923 Merc dime.:detecting:(wonder who missed THAT one). Also found a large ring of...copper/bronze? Maybe it's something for horse tack...

Then I headed out into the "carnival area". You know...the area with the rides??...... AND the BB cap cartridges from the old shooting galleries, AND the ride tokens, AND the....

So...I start collecting pennies. Mostly from the early 80's. I'm just about to quit(I can only handle so many pennies in a 5 foot circle), when up comes a solid, double tone 32. (double or triple tones means it's on the surface or just under) OK...one more penny if it's that shallow.

So I dig it up...AND IT'S A RING!!!:jump: not a penny.<---First time I'm fooled.
I look inside...and I see 10k!!! WOO HOOOOOO!!!!! My first gold ring!!!!<--Second time I'm fooled.

I keep detecting...but in the back of my mind...I'm thinking....32TID but it's 10k??

I finally look again...it ACTUALLY says STER + 10k. So it's a silver ring and the leaves are gold. Still pretty cool, but not gold. The gold must have pulled the silver down into the penny TID range. Nice garnet(?) though.

Lesson.....penny signals can lead to good things..........just not very often.

Still looking for my first gold.

Rick

Regardless of the metallic content, that is a nice looking ring. Congratulations! HH Randy
