Strewth Scotty, things must be crook in the West. . . What? No gold around?
Anyway. . . if things are so boring, here's a little slice of bias to get things moving.
" MEDIA baron Rupert Murdoch's call for Australians to resist letting their anger over the Iraq war destroy close ties between Australia and the US, is superb, Opposition Leader (the late) Kim Beazley has said. "
It is of note that since the awful mid-term election result suffered by the Republician party last week, feelgood envoy's have been released on Europe and other regions to spread the good news. The message being: don't let the smell of a dead dog in the White House spoil our deep and meaning ful relationship. . . administrations come and, they go.
Our own mister goodguy, Rupert Murdoch, has arrived as the new messenger of smarmy politics, US style.
This comes from a bloke who has sold his soul for a US $.
I know his mother, as so many locals do, I would hate to ask her about what she thinks of her son's loyalty on any issue. Worst of all, he comes as a representative of a failed US administration and dutifully slips into his Australian identity like a raincoat.
He will have to do a whole lot better to achieve credabiliy as far as I'm concerned.
I have some gripes.
My most serious issue is with a level of expectation about the individual US citizen.
I am the child of the second World War. I cut my teeth on gratitude to America. The silly thing is, I believed that America had a soft spot in their hearts for little Australia, meat-pies and golden beaches. . . let's not forget Australian beer.
Fool that I am, I expected America to reject the obscenity of cuban detection, rendition and torture out of hand.
Sadly, little or no objection to the fascist policies of G.W. Bush were to be heard. The American people bunkered down in silence; almost as if they prefered to wait and see the outcome; a timid reaction to events that they had little or no say in; 'Let's wait and see how the knife falls, heck! We just may win without exposing ourselves to . . . expressing an opinion'.
The knife has fallen with prejudice. The voices remain silent.
What should we in Australia hope from a timid people who have no gizzard left to voice protest against what they know is wrong?
America will never be defeated by an enemy outside, that would unify them. No, they can only be defeated by the void within thir hearts.
I respect those people I know who have a clear voice and the wit to argue their position from logic and intelligent debate. Most of the Americans I know are people like this. It's the group mentallity I fear. They have lowered their voices to blur with the landscape they go along with injustice because they don't want to be denounced and be known as 'outsiders'.
This happened in Europe, a bloke called Hitler and his mob . . . seemed a good idea at that time.
I fear for our friends in the US because I see where the are being taken by their leaders.
When the Royal navy of the UK, allows 15 of its members to be 'taken' by Iranian naval forces and doesn't fire a shot. . . you have to ask questions.
That's my 'pregnant dog-in' session for these subjects.
