The weekend's finds

The weather was perfect for detecting so I got out for a few hours. Aside from the usual pile of clad I found the wheaties: 1910, 1940, 1941, 1951, 1953, an unreadable Buffalo, a 1917 Merc, a 1946 and 1948 Rosie and a piece of jewelry stamped 1871 Forsythe on the back. There was probably a stone in the middle but I didn't see it in the hole. Good luck hunting this week!

Good assortment of good stuff there. Where does the buff nickel show on the smartfind screen? I only recently started digging nickels as I have found, by looking for gold coins :(, that jefferson nickels (in the ground) all seem to come in consistently in the clear section of the screen, about 1 line above the bottom and one line to the right of the black portion of the screen. I dont know if this is true for nickels that have been buried for a looooonnnng time as I havent dug any buffs or older with the explorer YET! I assume it would since I have found some 1940's amd 50's nickels and they sound the same. Thanks.

For only a few hours of work, you did very well I think. There is an Acid that will bring back the Date on your Buffalo Nickel. It is called Nic-A-Date. Got to love the site of Silver coming out of the dirt! Continued Success, Good Luck and HH.
