How was it compared to the black beauty? I just got mine back from fisher, and its a 3 software. Id like to take it out in the rocks and see what its got on small gold... Iv seen it get like 16inches on a peice of gold the size of a small tomato on this form. Well what happend? can't wait to here the scoop..

The Black Beauty has got the electronic know how. Allot of thought went into its design. It will in my opinion do very well when the headphone issue is cleared up. Sound means the world to me. Poor quality sound due to the stock headphones makes the detector seem weak. I did a recovery speed test side by side with an iron nail and a clad dime and flat button. The advantage went to the SE but black beauty was no slouch. Depth in the ground seems to be similar. I dug some deep targets so far with both detectors. The meter goes to the SE. Easy to see. Black beauty can been seen but not as well for me. The rod configuration goes to the SE. Cam locks keep it from the dreaded wobble at max. length. BB wobbles. Battery type is a draw. One nine volt or 4 AA's for the BB does not bother me. I put lithium batteries in all my detectors and they last along time.Pinpoint goes to the SE. BB is weak on deep targets. Tone id went to BB. But only when you need to check the targets iron resolution. The tone roll is a magic button. It will id large iron spot on. But only use it to verify a target in heavy iron or you will be bombarded with more sound. The SE may read large iron as good high conductive metal. Both work well on salt water beaches but neither is a MLB . BB will excel under the lakes and rivers in the coming season. My opinion. I will continue to enjoy both and mod my BB shaft to straight and get the G. adapter so I can use my own phones. One last thing, Weight and balance goes to the SE at max rod length. BB feels heavy to me on the coil end and I do love both coils and yes both get tangled in fallen twigs and sound off when you hit a rock or log. I'm sure this will get deleted but this is my opinion for whatever its worth. May save you 594.95.

Thanks for the more balanced information Detectorguru. Both machines appear to be winners...users will have different preferences.

We should all be thankful Garrett and First Texas are raising the bar. I'm sure we'll all benefit.

Thanks for doing the side by side test. This is Garretts first edition of the BB. The Garrett does have some teething problems to work out, some of which are already getting sent back for repair. As we all know the 2.9 SE (as tested) is not the first edition of the digital Bugs. It took a few versions to get it right, finally resulting in 2.9 (se) and 3.0 (pro) editions. I also like the screen display on the Fisher/Tek better than the BB..........it is easier to read, not so busy, and not so glarry.

I like the underwater capability of the BB. It would be good to use along a river on step banks in case you fall in the detector would be saved.. But i can't wait to take my GBSE out in a few days when school gets over..

In some of the AT PRO videos I have watched here and on youtube the detector sounded like R2D2 on crack with all the different sounds it was making. Not so sure I would want to listen to all that through headphones. Is all that noise caused from a very trashy area or how the detector was set up? I use a Fisher cz5 and hunt in zero disc most of the time to pick good targets out of the iron and trash but the good tones are very distinct and easy to isolate. Can someone explain please? Thanks.....

It can be noisy or quiet , depends on your settings in disc. and sensitivity. Proper ground balance is a must. On some of the vids I feel proper ground balance was not achieved and using zero disc. in a trashy park is a no no if you do not want to be bombarded with sound as you already know. The narrow field of the DD coil and the super fast processor makes it great for separating targets in trash. 15khz or 19khz (goldbug se) is still not my choice for a deep coin hunter but both machines do a good job.
