Ola mi amigoes! I havent posted any finds in a while as I havent really been detecting since mid summer. Way tooooooo hot here in Socal.

Well, today I was able to get some coil time. On the invitation of Thomas from Riverside, I went to a demo South of Los Angeles.

Arrived at the scrape around 8am. Met Randy, Tristan, Gerber and Fooleo. Randy introduced me to some of the Riverside's treasure hunters Ken, Rick, Pete and a couple of other guys. Thomas, didnt make it.

I was a little worried that I had lost my Explorer skills, having not detected for so long. WHATEVERrrrr, this was my chance to start detecting again so I went at it like a pitbull to a chew toy.

Honestly, when I first turned it on, the Explorer was a stranger to me. Those tones seem to have gotten loonier since I last heard them. And it seemed to have gained a few pounds from just sitting in the closet.

To make things easier on myself, I strapped on a swingy thingy, adjusted the machine to IM-14 (per Charles new tips) and lowered sensitivity to 24 (my own concoction). Not much luck in the first two hours. A bunch of clad and some wheats. And then I heard a very faint silver tone. Hmmmm. 00-27, 00-30, 11-16, the target ID was jumping around. But unlike nails and bottle caps, which tend to BLAST your ears, this particular target was SAWEEEEET.

I cut a plug with my shovel and put my probe in 4 inches deep. WHHiiiiiiNG! The target ID registered a solid 00-28. At this point, I was sure that there was silver in the hole. I started to sing the theme song of the MISS AMERICA Pageant. "There she is, MEEESSSS AMEREEEECA!" I thought it appropriate and appropriate tune as I tried to locate my target.

I then proceeded to deepen the hole. At 6 inches, I took another reading, 00-28. At 10 inches, WHHHHiiiiiiNG!, the target ID locked on to 00-29. I had no idea that the Miss America theme song was MORE APPROPRIATE than I originally thought. Just a little below 10 inches, I recovered the coin and saw an eagle on the obverse. When I turned it over, MISS LIBERTY was looking straight at me. My first SLQ! Yeeeehaaaa! I think all 8 other detectorists on the site heard me scream. And it was a BIG site.

I recovered 3 clad nickels less than a foot around the SLQ. I finished the day with a MERC, a bunch of wheats and three old marbles. I also have a few whatsits that I am too tired to clean. I'll update tomorrow.

Heres a the pic.

p.s. the depths may have been changed to protect the innocent :wiggle:

Always nice to get the first one out of the way and good depth on it also. Leave me a couple as I'm flying in Wed. AM to visit the kids and grandkids for a week or so. Believe me I'm taking the Explorer along also and digging tools.

And someone lost their marbles!

That is a great find there buddy! I've only found one SLQ in all the years I've been detecting so I know exactly how you feel!

Nice Merc too!
