Really close to the house, some guy posted a lost wedding ring on CL a few years ago so I often head over there to see if I can find it, big looking ring, should hit hard if'n I ever get the coil over it...nice little place to warm up in the morning, drink some coffee, got a small 925 bangle off a necklace this am..very first target..its about as big as a dime but has a filigree pattern...I'm sure the pics I take would not be anything anybody wants to see of it, blurry mess that my pics are and all...just a nice easy morning with a few Q's D's N's and P's of course..now that its light out nearly at 5:30, a fellow can get in a few hours easily before work. This park is all fill, cant find a clear spot to Ground Balance, so I just fire up and go. Getting some 4" deep Q's here, so I don't think I'm missing anything much..Anybody finding anything?.
Mud

Good going Mud. It must be one of these weeks for us. I have been going out and finding 20, 30 coins and not really caring just staying close to home. Your wedding ring story sounds like mine. I have spent over 12 hours looking for this ring with 7 diamonds for, I guess a year now? Every time I am around the area I go out and give it another try. If I find it I will probably fall over..
You know some of the guys never re balance. They just get out of the car and start hunting. I re balance a lot. Great getting out and enjoying the hunt. Happy Trails.....Z

Me too, just staying close and getting ready...The summer season is just now starting to get going this weekend...theres lots of parties and music festivals in the parks around here, and I'm sure over in your area too..
They have "Movies on the Beach" here, they set up a big screen and show movies out on the sand..for free! first one is Raiders of the Lost Ark this weekend.
I check the local event section and sort of plot where I need to be and when...theres so many, a fellow can really get running around early in the am smoke jumping and quick brooming all those events. Its tough duty though, not a relaxing way to hunt, fun and fast and strenuous, paper money and empty cans at all of these things, so its not a true metal detecting kind of excersize, but a treasure hunt none the less...no telling what a guy can find.

We have big art festival this weekend a few blocks away. So getting all my ducks in order to get there early. Your are right not relaxing but moving quickly. Not the best of hunting conditions. That is just a fine condition for the F70 though. That's when the Disc@24, Sens@60, notch out tabs, Thresh@-3, tones@3H with 6.5" coil and just dig the high tones works pretty good. HH and looking forward to you results....Z

Nice post Mud and others - just a quick update on my F70 learning curve - got the swing of it now - although I went to the oval coil to simplify pinpointing - did not seem to lose much depth over the DD. Still use the DD when it is not too trashy. I found two silver quarters recently - both about 4-5 inches deep and both rang in pretty loud - a 1946-D and a 1958 Canadian. Also hit the BB courts in the rough part of town and got some quarters, dimes and bling - air Jordan necklace pendant - junk pierced ear rings - keys - a gold plated ring with a big chunk of cut glass............ had me going for a minute. As for clad and other coins - I can usually pick up 15-20 coins/hour. Used Zeekeys settings (previous post) with the elliptical coil and it tamed down the noise while still getting a good repeatable and accurate ID for quarters dimes nickels and pennies................ although I am really coming to hat those zinc pennies that turn to swiss cheese in a couple of years. I sometimes lug my old bounty hunter red baron along when swinging the F70 - to verify pinpointing and probing as well as to compare signals and responses. The F70 really has great power and depth - but the 30-year old Bounty Hunter is still a pretty deadly coin finder after all these years.

Anybody have any suggestions to differentiate or pick good signals when in proximity to junk signals? I noted with the F70 (DD or elliptical coil) sometimes there seems to be a good signal next to an iron or junk signal - but switching to all metal to pinpoint it cannot be separated from the other signal. I think a small coil may do the trick - but do not want to buy one...................... at least until I get enough found treasures to pay for it.

Summer has begun as you pointed out................ and the land of lost objects is being replenished on almost a daily basis. Happy hunting to you all!

Fantax

Fantax glad your getting to know the F70. It is really a simple machine to use. On the zinc pennies. You could notch out zinc pennies. I don't notch out zinc's because I have dug a few nice rings/jewelry in that range. Zinc's usually come up 60,61 on the meter you could decide not to dig those numbers? And the zinc tone, boy that stops me dead in my tracks. I dig them and count them and if bad shape I chuck them. I am a coin hunter and if rings and jewelry comes up all the better. Have fun Fantax and Happy Trails.....Z

Great find on the Silver Q's Fantax! The 70 absolutely hits them hard eh? I like to hear the pennys to keep me on my toes and help me locate the "drop zones" After a while, you will never use the PP button anyway, just stab and grab..the Proportional audio tells you how deep and what the target is. Wont hardly look at the screen either. I stab all those zincs and especially the ones that are half rotten or give off a somewhat different signal than a normal one in search of a mens gold class ring. All the silver bracelets I found have been in the high 50's just like a rotten zinc. I have a coffee can full of those rotten pennys, I don't know why, someday I figure out what to do with them. Nice to hear from you and glad you are having some success with the '70!:clapping:

I don't know how close the F70 is to the F75 but I leave the big coil on and head straight to the trashy areas. I don't run any discrimination normally and I use a quick sweep as the F75 does better on some of the deeper targets beneath the trash. Tomorrow I am going to disc out Pulltabs, and notch nickles back in. Im going for the gold. Gonna be a great weekend.
