Theres a construction company thats been tearing down and moving school yard playground equipment...They tear it down from one school, and move it to a different one...Half the schools are closing, I got to know the construction guys a little, or at least they know me, we usually drink a cup of coffee together and talk fishing early in the morning when I roll up. I follow them around and give the tearouts a good sweeping after they haul everything away. Its really sad to see these big old brick schools going empty when they used to be full of happy kids with holey pockets. The good thing is I can sweep some places that would not be safe to be there alone at, with all the construction guys there, I fit in like I'm looking for a buried line or something..Still, I have not found anything worth a Tinkers cuss for a while...need some old silver or big gold! What are you all seeing out there for this seasons drops? Slow, or what?

I think the trucks are hauling the goodies away. Sand or wood chips are usually put over hardpack. Same goes for sidewalk replacement as they dig out inches of dirt and fill it in with a draining ash before the new concrete is poured.. One of the locals hit one of these tot lots that was being replaced with a new plastic enclosure and came out with several silvers including a nice walking half. Follow the trucks to see where they are dumped as hit several dumploads from a real old sidewalk replacement and came up with two seated dimes and a large cent..

A goodly number of tot lots have gone by the way side in my area. They haul the equipment and chips away and let grass (and weeds) take over the spot. Our school yards and tot lots are now just starting to get replenished with all schools now in session. Hit a good lot last weekend with the Omega and $3. + of new drops on Sun. The nice thing about the chip lots is they are a quick and easy hunt with often nice rewards. HH jim tn

Here the wood chips and sand lots are being replaced by blue spongy rubber. We had a few with just the rubber around swings and slides but now more and more of the whole tot lots are this blue rubber. .....Z

Mud while they are not closing the schools down around here. They have been moving some of the equipment around and adding more up to date plastic substrate barriers around the equipment which hasn't landed me any lotto ticket value type items but have raked in the coins and kiddy costume jewlery.

Now so far this year the elementary playgrounds have given up 1 14.7 g sterling bracelet, saint chris pendant and necklace, 57 rosie, 2 14k gold pendants ( yes I went back in all metal with the stingray for the chains, no dice ;) ) and 1 10k 3 diamond chip ladies ring, oh and a Jeep full of junk and a mountain of clad with no shortage of costume jewelry.

The highschools have been awesome to me this year ( no class rings sadly though ).

Good luck with it my friend,

Same here mudpuppy.
There are so few OLD schools around, that I can count them on one hand. And, I am talking quite a radius from my home.
I contacted one today and it is now a YMCA.
I think that is going to be the trend however. Nothing you can do to stop it.
Just find what you can while they are still there.

There are two beauties I know of from 1920-1930 and they are now cancer treatment centers.

Am seeing a few closers here also.Have found 1 rosie and 1 merc.and a whole lot of wheats........hh rick in mi
