Think I'm going to sell it :chase:

I know I raved about it and all but I think the time has come admit a few things. I love the features but the packaging just doesn't work for me. That heavy Explorer II just has to go!

What? You thought I was talking about the T2? :yikes:

No way!

I too have an Explorer II and have had it from the start and an XS before that. I'm not a huge Minelab fan per se, but I could never ignore the capability of the Explorers. The T2 is the first TID detector that I've had (and I've had 'em all) that would leave me feeling all comfy if I were to part with the Explorer. In other words, I know where you're coming from!

Mike,

If you don't require the depth of the stock coil, the Explorer/Quattro are much more enjoyable to use with a smaller coil. I could swing the Quattro all day with a Joey coil. I hear very good things about the Explorer and the Sunray X-8 coil.

If you require a larger coil for depth, you can always use one of the simple bungee type devices such as the Swingy Thingy. This allows you to swing the detector with two fingers and is really not that cumbersome to use.

Its a shame such awesome technology isn't packaged in something like the X-Terra package. Hopefully the Explorer III is more ergonomically friendly.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Hi Mike,

I agree, The Explorer may have to go. My explorer is collecting dust rotting away propped up against the wall. The only reason I keep the Minelab anchor is someday I'm hoping an old park will surface that hasn't been hammered by the explorer.

The Explorer for deep ID silver can't be beat but for everything else the T-2 comes out ahead, I say keep the Explorer as a large paper weight :)

I have a question, Are you the Mike that built's HMS wooden ships?

Paul (Ca)

Hi Paul,

I'm mulling it around.

Mtdora Mike is the shipbuilder. Nice guy. I've probably got his email somewhere if you're looking for him. Most of the time he's on the Fisher forums.

Glad to know I'm not the only one feeling like this. I've been comparing the T2 to all the top line machines and while there are things I like about them all, the T2 just keeps coming out on top as far as a general all round machine.

What do you thing makes good compliment to the T2?

HH

Mike

Thanks for the info, Keith. I do like the smaller 7" coil on it. We'll see how it goes.

HH

Thanks Mike,

If you sell the Explorer you can always pick one up later in ther future, The T-2 is one super duper machine and has too many good reasons not to sell her.

I'll contact Mike from the fisher forum, Thought it was you but now I see it was the other Mike. Going to built me a large almost five foot ship here soon, Should take a year to build.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)

Compliment? Well, that like most other answers aren't ever quite so simple. I'll assume TID so as to leave the X-5 and Nautilus out. I'll also say that most top of the line TID's are at least in the same ball park on depth so that won't be a deciding factor here. Also, a person's local conditions and hence their requirements would help narrow the field. Like, to compliment the T2, would it be another top shelf detector that just works well with concentric coils since we know the T2 is designed for DD only? Fisher CZ's or the C$ would be a few. If you wanted to prioritize more around contrasting speed from the T2, then a Sov or even the Explorer might be a match since they are slower swing required than the T2. Maybe you'd also want to have the alternate detector for the T2 to have great notching and even a lot of flexibility in programming. Treasure Baron. And last but not least, what detector would you want to use if and when your T2 needs a trip to the Dr.? Might well be another T2 so in that case the best compliment would be another one. :) Seriously, I know you are into detectors about as deep as anyone Mike, so you know we could go on and on about differences and strengths of a lot of detectors. How's all that for a non-answer? My personal detector(s) I use to compliment the T2 is in fact all that I mentioned. :detecting:

Been regretting it several times as I miss that detector.
I had the updates done to mine too, so it worked good for me, but things got tough and had to sell the T-2 or the X-Terra 70 and the T-2 was the first to sell. I plan of getting a new one when I can again as I do miss it.
There was 2 things I didn't like on the T-2 and that was detecting close to any detector as it chattered a lot so it wasn't very good for competition hunting and where there was a lot of electrical interference as you had to turn down the sensitivity and raise the disc.
What is impressive is how small some of the target it will see and deep too. Also how easy it was to set up and use.
