thinking about getting a xp deus

TennTyrant

New member
I am thinking of getting a Deus my question is what would be the best configuration to get? Should I get it with the regular coil or the bigger coil? Etc.

I have the 11" and seem to do well even in trashy areas for separation. All I can tell you as I've never had any other coil.

Hi Tyrant, The 9" coil dose a very good job, gose about as deep. If you are going to hunt big open fields, maybe but I stayed with the 9" and it has done me a very good job. Good luck with what ever you choose.

Regardless of the coil , I prefer the WS4 setup.
The remote is a must for easy , complete programming and with the adapter clip you can run virtually any headphones you wish.
At this point my question would not be which configuration to get but when to buy it.

I would tell folks if they are buying Deus now---- get the 11" coil

I say this because a person may want to buy the new 6x9" coil later.

There is a chance the original 9" coil if a,person has both the 11" and new 6 x9" ---- will have few uses.

But this is only speculation on my part--- totally.

So folks understand.

11 inch coil WS4 back phones fine even at surf for me.

This post is a just in time post to help for all us lurkers reading about the wireless detector. Thanks to the OP for starting the thread because of the choices from basic to loaded it is overwhelming with the package options. I'm reading XP Deus posts and thinking aka wishing about a possible purchase. The Deus seems to be a good answer for the one machine detectorist. I like the idea of operating at multiple frequencies and how I read it enhances the detectors ability to target different metals better. The factory information states the basic model can be adjusted fully with the headphones. My question is does this entry level package with headphones do all the functions of the remote? I will guess the remote is the visual information of pin point etc that is not available without it. For those that bought without the remote are you content with your decision or did you quickly get the remote to complete the detector. It seems that adding the remote later costs much more that buying it in a package, if I'm reading it all correctly. Sometimes waiting and getting it all in a package is better finically than getting it is smaller steps.

I'm in the same boat as some of you guys been bouncing back and forth between the CXT and the Deus and coming from a Excalibur II I hate big and clunky headphones

If headphones are the big issue , get a set of the XP wired backphones($22) and a CTX. The XP backphones will either plug into the CTX wireless module or the machine itself and work wonderfully. You will not only have good tones but a detector that is a know quantity instead of waiting for the next Deus version or ending up buying the wrong configuration for your detecting style , and having to spend more hard earned bucks to upgrade your equipment in just a few months.(?)

Sprchng,
Point well taken, but one question I do have is the CTX worth roughly the 1 grand additional cost ?
Rob

Not really but the used market is pretty buyer friendly.
There are a number of used CTXs that pop up with enough warranty to cover the purchase if you get one with issues(which can happen with any detector) , that have been lightly used at about the same cost as a Deus Ws-4 or 5 new. You might even get an additional coil which is an additional several hundred dollars if it's an XP

The CTX is worth the one grand more if you want to hunt with multi-frequencys. But, if one frequency at a time is good enough get the Deus and put some of the difference towards some accessories. Also, if weight is a concern, the Deus is the best choice. I have both the CTX and the Deus. I find I'm using the Deus more than the CTX because of the weight. Also I find, for my kind of hunting, the Deus will find anything that the CTX would find.
Just my 2 cents worth. HH

I have found them both be able to find the same items just as you say. However , with the CTX I have a much better idea of WHAT I am digging before I dig than with the Deus , which I think is partly the advantage of multi frequency detecting. The rumor has it that "target ID" is one of the issues the rumored update is going to attempt to address but there has been no confirmation of that at this point , or how much that new target identification improvement will cost the users.

When they upgrade the Deus it's a plug and play.
Just plug it into your computer and down load the newest upgraded version at no additional cost.
Even if you have the first model version... just do the upgrade and it's good to go.
Now some things in the new program will only work with the new coil (like the higher frequencies), but that won't stop me.
when they upgrade the CTX how much will that cost you??

Hopefully that is true and the rumored target ID improvement is not dependent upon the rumored new coil and the higher frequencies.
If I was considering buying a new unit I would like to know before I spent my money.

Well I guess I'm still a sucker than because I still dig everything even after 8 years, when you live in farm country it doesn't take much to excite you I guess.
Thanks for your replies sorry to hijack the thread
Happy Hunting
