Thinking I may need to buy a "waterproof detector...

Rain , rain, rain......... summer is almost over and all it's done is rain.. Whew, it's getting old real quickly..

Yeah, you probably should...especially if you really like your 70...It will hunt in the rain with a bit of protection, but a guy worries you know...Thats why I got a AtPro to complement the 70 and extend my year...they both use the same batteries, and the cool thing is when the Pro says its 'done' with them, I pop them out and put them in the 70 and get another 15+ hrs out of them!

The Pro has a few limitations regarding tones, speed and ergonomics, but it will by damn hit GOLD and is better suited for big rain and water hunting all around...I'm thinking it was about this time a few years back when I finally broke down in frustration over hunting the wet and bought one from a Forum Sponsor...paid for itself right quick, very short learning curve..you can switch back and forth from one to the other throughout the day as the situation merits...the 70 and the Pro make one hell of a team alright, 'Brothers from different Mothers' so to speak!

At Pro? Heck its good up to ten feet  Sorry to hear you have had a lot off rain in your area. It's good for other things not so good for detectin' Hope it clears up so you can enjoy your summer and make some great finds.

I'm thinking of getting a f70 "rain suit" if I can find one again.

I almost bought an ATgold , until I heard on in action. It's tone is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

I was hoping one or two of the new f-series would be waterproof. I'm kind of surprised that neither FTP or ML hasn't come out with a good, competitive machine.

Maybe next year.

Finally got a break around here but now it's humid as heck with 105 heat index. lol

Cry me a river, detectingMo. Just drop down 100 or so miles south of you. Its so hot and humid down here, my hunting buddy and I were soaking wet just thinking about getting out of my SUV when we arrived at out hunting spot early this morning. HH jim tn

 river of sweat coming your way! lol

Put some tape over the screen and controls and get a can of that LeakEnder Stuff they advertise on TV and spray the whole detector with it---it's guaranteed to work! Get a couple of earth tone colors and you can camo it at the same time :)

I hope you are kidding amazon reviews on Leak Ender

I' ve took a couple of quart freezer bags and bagged the control box and battery compartment on my F70, secured everything as best I could with a few wraps of scotch tape, and it worked fine in light rains. Wasn't pretty, but who cares.

I hunted hard in serious rain with my F70 with nothing more then a bread bag and rubber band as weather gear. Never had so much as a blip on my F70....can't say the same for my buddies T2 :stretcher:

Elton I use a sandwich bag over my control housing. Keep it there all the time. I have been caught a few times is some good down pours. Last week got so wet I was soaked to the bone and just wiped the F70 off and put it in the trunk. Wife had to throw my clothes in the dryer before she could put them in the wash basket. That is wet!!! If your going to in the river or creek maybe but just for a few showers??? Enjoy the F70 and the 6.5" is pretty good coil that stays on my detector all the time. Take care El.......Z

100 + wouldn't matter if it was raining or not I would be soaked :ranting: dirt hunting is a cool weather sport for me, head for the water in summer go for a swim and maybe find something :poke:

if rain comes I shove the control box up my shirt and run must look funny  not sure I would be trusting a plastic bag , but I do feel for you Elton and others with wet weather gets a bit frustrating I am sure !!

fisher are on the right track now with the F44 etc.. rain no drama and new ones to come in 2016 now if I can just save some cash for the multi freaker as Dave calls it I really want one of those but my bank balance doesn't :sadwalk:

but who knows might find a pile of gold this summer, yeah right :punch: but gotta be in it to win it :poke:

hope you guys can get out soon!!

AJ

This feedback is interesting...
I have also hunted in some pretty heavy rain with the 70 with nothing more than a small dish towel or tee shirt draped over the brain box with no ill effects....came home completely soaked to the skin a time or two but the 70 didnt seem to mind at all....a guy should be careful and not over do it or press his luck, but from the replies, the 70 can take a bit more punishment than others?
Mud.

one of those waterproof lunch boxes they make would be a good idea if you could find one about the same size?

I just am not that keen I guess nothing out there worth getting a wet butt over , unless I hit a patch of gold rings , rain drops work stops for me, if theres cover I will use it if it looks like a passing shower otherwise home to write something on here :lmfao:

but sure don't let me stop anyone detecting in the rain it could be quite nice in summer :clapping:

AJ

I'm thinking along the same line as Mud. I'm more worried about someone or something bashing my f70 than the rain. But I have also had a few "freak outs" on start up that make me err to caution. I'll probably add a few freezer bags to the pack, along with some good electrical tape, until I can justify the rain suit.

I know him well enough to know he isn't going to be caught out hunting in the rain. HH jim tn

True .Very true................... I might melt !! ............................... More rain today............ Jim your right. I don't detect in the rain, wind, snow, or even on some really nice days ...

It was a thought though.......... this rain will not stop..

O K, lets make a deal. I'll trade you 4" of concrete like turf for 4" of your rain. And I'll even toss in some 99 (heat index of 106 & 107) degree days along with just half of our humidity. How does that sound? HH jim tn
