Thinking of buying a Safari

And wanted to know how it's depth compares to the Etrac and SE. I currently own an Xterra 70 and love the quality of Minelab machines. Thanks for your help.
 
Great Idea!!! I am waiting on mine to come in. I have used the Xterra 70 also with great results. Look back in this forum til about the 15th page for some great info. I have read that the Safari is just as good as the SE or Etrac only without the extra programs. Can't wait to try mine out!!! MO
 
Thanks for the info. I guess with no other comments most on this forum must feel the Safari doesn't stack up to the Etrac or SE. Well, can't justify spending $1500 on an Etrac, so I guess I'll order a Safari. I've always thought that how well a detector performs is usually based on how well the operator can run it. I've gotten serious depth out of my Xterra just by knowing how to tweak it, but now I want to see if another Minelab can beat it.
 
Buy the Safari. If you understand, which you seem to do, that operator skill and technique are the real difference between most machines, then you are ready. The Safari is a good machine and you, more than many, will like it. Learn it and then put that to work.

Well, I have had mine for three weeks and a buddy of mine uses an explorer.. He is QUITE impressed with the accuracy and depth of my Safari. I am still adjusting to mine but I really like it...

I might add that I handled the E-trac and the SE prior to buying my Safari... That does not mean I used them in the field, but rather handling it, short turn on, range of feel, and I liked it better... Also the simplicity was an attraction to me. I have an F75LTD, V3, Tejon, DFX,... and several others. My sole prupose was NOT to have a another learning curve when I can have a DEEP machine, true all metal, disc programming, in an easier format. Guess I am a little tired of spreadsheets, and programming.. Get enough of that at work... hahaha

Have not even had mine in the field yet, but from what I've learned from just playing with it, I'm glad I traded my LTD for it!!!!
 
I've owned both the Safari and the SE this year and can't really tell any difference in the depth. The SE of course has more options that could possibly lead to more depth in certain situations. But for raw power I'd say they are pretty much the same.
 
On my 9.5" dime I have buried on edge the Safari hits it with a better ID and Audio and with it in Auto then the SE does. Manual also. I have run the SE every way you can run it and as far as I am Concerned the Safari after you get used to it will out hunt my SE down here in my dirt. Also where are you going to get a machine that will run 8 different programs with a push of a button in Ferrous/ Conductivity and any combination of ferrous/Conductivity as long as you know how to Cross save the different programs. Me, I usually use the Safari especially in the trash and Iron trash and a small coil. It is like the bad news Bears. I have a lot of time on the Explorers. Never used the E-Trac and I am not even interested in it. The auto is not the same auto as the SE has. Anyway back to Lurking . :D: :D: Jerry aka Tinfoil
 
The Safari is a scaled down FBS detector(Explorer, Etrac).

It has same capablity, But it has fewer adjustments.

This was Minelabs replacement of the Quattro...........the Quattro was a user freindly turn on and go detector.

So.......... why would I want to spend more money for an Etrack or Explorer if the Safari has the same capability??
 
The ONLY reason I traded my Safari in on my Ex SE is that I got a great deal from Richard at Backwoods. As I said, the SE has options that could inhance performance in some situations.
 
Even thou it has the same technology........It is not as adjustable.

Many of the setting on the other detectors mentioned help increasse depth and and stability for more stituations.
 
I went from the X-70 to the Safari and I am glad I did. I used the X-70 on a small site and found nothing but clad but after buying the Safari and went back to the same site and found 3 deep LC in a matter of minutes. The Safari is not as fast as the ECrack and may miss some of the real deep targets in trashy areas but as with most high end machines they will sniff out anything if you go slow. I can't think of a better machine in it's price range. The Safari makes a lot of noise but that is good because it's telling you "I'm working just listen to me". Start off by using the coin mode and if you start going nuts with the "talking" just notch out 40, 16-29 and everything 10 and below. Yes you could miss some gold but it's worth learning the machine first and going back for the gold. Good luck!
