Thinking of Buying a White metal detector

CanadaDig

New member
I have been metal detecting for 4 months with a fisher 4 and found 1 silver ring, 1 silver quarter, 1 large canada cent 1919. I like the response of the F4 but want a better machine. Im looking into getting the Spectra 3vi (without wireless headphones) or the VX3. I need some honest opinions here. I have not been metal detecting long but I dont want to waste my time since their is a better a machine out there that I can get better with practice with.

I live in Ontario Canada and the coins here are made of Metal and dont register as a u.s. quarter etc. I have a Condo down in Naples Florida but have never used a detector on the Beach but planning on doing as I go down.

I like what I see on the Whates 3vi but also tempted on the Etrac (I think its too much for me to consume as a rookie) , I just hope the 3vi will be worth the extra money from my F4. I hear that its location and experience with the machine , not the machine itself. Kind of confused if its worth upgrading or should I keep practicing witht he F4. Im 45 years old and love electronics and hooked on metal detecting since I started 4 months ago.

Also my f4 has a dd coil and the vx3 comes with a C coil....am I going to lose depth. Does the Whites go deeper, I like the 3 frequency set up but noticed the Etrac has a 100 frequency. If I would have bought the whites before this f4 , I would have saved my self money since Im upgrading to a better machine....I dont want to have to upgrade again...

Hi there I'd go with the V3i over the Etrac heard the Whites gets better depth and you get a two year warranty! Whites has fixed units for me that were over the two year warranty period for nothing great customer relations! Whites has the best customer service after the sale and the best service department hands down! HH

Thanks for the response. is their much difference with the 3vi and the vx3...im worried a bout the rechargeable batteries on the 3vi.

[size=large]more exspensive is not better. you nailed it as far as it comes down to the user knowing their machine. i have found the differant machines out shine others based on location and style of hunting and what you're hunting. one machine doesn't cover it all. some are better than others. and it's not because of price. i have two whites, one minelab and a garrett. like em all. just some days i feel like using this one or that one. look at some of the signatures and how many differant machines folks own. for your canadian coins one machine may work better than any other. on the sunny beaches seems all the brands have good machines. don't fall into the coil hype. learn why certain coils work best on sand or in your area. if you can test drive some then do it. take your time and research. it will save you lots of money. and don't leave out the AT PRO.[

thank you, Im getting use to the DD coil however, im searching parks up here from the 1800's . I get single beeps and when I go over them again I dont here them , then I go over again and I get the high pitch signal. I find Pennies like they are falling from the sky but these Canadian Coins (unless older than 1970) are almost all metal. Bottle caps, I can now recognize since they jump from 74 to 100 but I dig em to learn. I dig all pull tabs hoping for a ring. I found my first silver quarter after 40 hours so I guess Im not doing too bad. Im thinking on buying a 8 inch C coil just to see how it works. The most I can get on an air test on this machine is areound 8 to 9 inches. I will practice some more, because I dont understand threshold much...I do know how to ground balance and I only disc Iron 1 and 2 on my machine. Thanks for your info. Appreciate your honest opinion. Love this Hobby, just trying to get good at it.
