Hello beachguy, thought I'd post two photos of the things I've found detecting on the goldfields. All are common to find, but interesting just the same. From cutlery to door knobs with ceramics, hinges, fob watch parts (the one with the chrome is dated 188:geek:, spurs, gold scales bar, door lock, paddlocks, and more! I've got a few boxes filled with these and other stuff.

I love it, I love it, I love it. That's truly a blast from the past. A part of your, and in a sense (our) heritage. What better way to see how people lived in yesteryear than to dig up some of the "stuff" that they lived with. I'm just amazed that they just threw that stuff away, but maybe they lost it instead, especially if it was silver. That is really some setup you have there. One of my "dream" finds is some kind of "old" watch. I found a fairly recent ladies watch burried about a foot deep in :|the wet sand at a local beach, but that doesn't really count, because I don't think it was worth anything and it wasn't old. I l o v e, the old stuff, either coins or relics.

The watch you found would still count for hidden or buried treasure Beachguy. And you know what, back in those days they wouldn't havethought of heritage, and the preserving alive of relics. It was just pure everyday item, household stuff that once it served it's purpose, was a throwaway item, like in our society today. It's just, because society today tries to get in touch with their past, and the lives of those long gone, is why these usually ordinary items have become valuable. They now mean something to us. But we're no different in that we tear down old houses, demolish buildings that have been on this earth for over fifty years, then our grandkids will be doing the same thing we do, go in hunt for buried treasure! (follow in our footsteps!)

Right on, Golden!!! Your so right, and you know what? This may sound crazy, but, we have a couple of old dumps here in town, where they used to dump the everyday garbage back in the 50's. Well, of course I was alive in the 50"s and I'm STILL, curious as to what they might have thrown away. I'd even get more excited to search a dump site from the 30's or 40's. I know that's fairly recent compared to like the 1800's, but it still fascinates me to see old pictures, even to see what kind of things people used or had during those times. Hmmmmmm. Maybe, I ought to look into this thing, do you recon????? That's kind of a "no brainer", I think, and I wonder why I havn't done it already. I do realize it may be impossible to get into an area like that or it may be replaced by buildings, but it sure would be worth a try. Thanks for another interesting post.:yo::|
