I dont agree with tresspassing or looting or the destruction of any historical property OR burial grounds, etc. either.
I also don't agree with these legistrative idiots who think they can control our every move in America and or, our FREEDOM and God given right to have, pursue and engauge in our hobby/s.
As many may agree, what right do THEY have to tell us that we can not use and or, dictate where/when and how, or, even out-law the use of a $1000.00+ machine that "WE buy/bought with our OWN hard earned money" that is made/sold here in America for leisurely use in OUR hobby?
And futher more, where do they get off trying to make US look like bad guys by doing so?
Also, whoever these idiots are that assign these "so called values" to the things we find, I believe they're so OVER BLOWN out of proportion that it's sickning and THEY deserve a good #%& kicking in my opinion!
When was the last time YOU found a rusty old nail or some god ugly 100 yr old coin, buckle, button, etc. so badly encrusted with crap on it that you could barely recognize what the hell it is and then, put it up for auction and sell/sold it for $400 or $500!?
Are these people OUT OF THEIR MINDS!?
I've sold coffee cans FULL of detector finds from years and years of hunting with anything and EVERYTHING you can imagine finding with a detector INCLUDING buttons, bullets, coins, tokens, etc. etc. etc. and guess what? $80 to $100 is the AVG. sale for something like that with 100s of items in the lot!
So, for these idiots to sit there and TELL the world that people in our hobby reap, pillage, plunder and steal the American public lands of "pick-up trucks full of old relics, etc. and sell individual items for $100s of dollars each- is nothing more than a CROCK OF BS IN MY BOOK"..
I'm sorry but,
when was the last time anyone HERE found a button or buckle, relic or coins, etc. etc. that were NOT rusted, corroded, bent, broken, falling apart, turning to dust OR just plain so unrecognizable that you couldn't even tell what it is/was and then, put it up for auction and sold it for $400 or $500!? And how many here have found PICK-UP TRUCKS FULL!?
GIVE ME A FREEKIN BREAK!!
Yeah right!! I'm just raking in the pick-up trucks FULL of relics, coins, tokens, buttons, buckles, etc. etc. and basking in the 100s of 1000s of dollars I make monthly from pillaging and plundering the lands (plus) the supply is never ending!!
Care to join me and split the profits anyone!?

you're lucky if you can 2 bucks for a !@#$$%! stinking minnie ball.

First I agree, they "the archaeologists" are spreading lies and distortions, I mean come on really an entire "truck" load of relics??? It probably had NY plates and a bumper sticker that say hahahah the south lost the civil war too geesh! And what idiot would buy a musket ball for $35.
I wrote the bills sponsor this morning, here is her reply. Note that she is "not" taking a strong stand in defending the bill, in fact she is pointing a finger at the archaeologists. I think the bill is on wobbly legs, keep pounding away with email in opposition.
"Mr. Keith, My purpose in introducing the bill....at the request of archaeologists....was to preserve Virginia's heritage. Unfortunately, I am unable to be at Session because I am receiving chemotherapy in Alexandria. I suggest you confer with Del. Ken Plum who is handling the bill before continuing your opposition. Marian Van Landingham "

there are NOT truckloads of revolutionary war relics being hauled off from around Yorktown in my opinion. i've been all around Yorktown, i couldn't even find a place to detect around there, it's all historic protected ground and private property. the penninsula is really a pretty small piece of ground, and small community.
i want to see their proof of $35 bullets being sold all of the time and the truckloads of revolutionary relics being hauled off.
and, i want to see their proof that it's all about money. i don't even know any fellow detectorists that try to sell their finds, except for c.c., and he's in canada.
this is their distorted attempt at getting the public to side with them, in my opinion.

If allowed/passed, this VA bill up for vote will surely be one step more/closer in the direction of communism in America. It won't be long after, that, more bills of the same nature will follow (state by state) as more and more archeaologist and legistrative idiots work together in out-lawing our hobby as we know it..
They plead to the courts with their over blown BS lying claims that "we" the general public/metal detectorist go out in the middle of the night onto "off limits land" such as historically marked Battle-fields, etc. etc. with trucks, shovels, lights, canvas covers, etc. and work thru-out the night under-cover DIGGING/STEALING relics and other items worth 100s and even 1000s of dollars BY THE TRUCK LOADS!! This is what is/has been claimed in VA by a few moral-less idiots that if accepted as claimed and the bill passes, will make it ILLEGAL to hunt with a metal detector on any state/fed land and on 'any' private lands with out permission. It further suggest that, you won't even be able to detect on YOUR OWN PROPERTY with a detector as they could confiscate YOUR PROPERTY claiming it as an archeaological site!
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN IN YOUR STATE!!
DON'T SIT BACK THINKING THAT IT'S 'ONLY' THE PEOPLE IN VA THIS IS HAPPENING TO!
DON'T BLOW IT OFF LIKE IT ONLY HAPPENS TO OTHERS IN OTHER STATES!
DON'T IGNORE IT AS THOUGH JUST BECAUSE YOU COIN HUNT OR BEACH HUNT THAT IT WON'T EFFECT YOU OR YOUR STATE!

As President of the Bronx Explorer's Treasure Hunting Club, we have voiced our God given right as Americans to stop this bill or law HB-7028 from passing.
It's best that we all sopport one another before we all lose our right to do any Metal Detecting because of lies being spread by all kinds of people who are ignorant or just plain selfish as to which hobby people can have, or do.
I am going through the same problem at my job I've been at for the last 23 years. People in a department brought unfounded lies against us as a company, and if I let them get away with it, then I deserve to be stepped on and lose my job, but if I fight and search out who is to blame, its possible I can have the matter corrected.
The same thing is happening here, we are being attacked a lot of the time like me, without even knowing that we have become a target till a law is trying to be passed or in my case till after the bidding for the work was already done. Take a stand folks...

was when an archaeologist sold some out the backdoor of a museum. I've seen first hand (having worked in archaeology) how MANY of these guys operate, and how crooked and seedy the archaeological consulting business is. Payoffs. Donated artifacts being sold. Relics piled up in flooded basements rotting away. Hmmm...and THEY are concerned with preserving history. Perhaps they are concerned with job stability and the glory fo the finds I also notice the neglect to mention how the typical archaeologist gets his site locations from people like ourselves because they are too lazy to get off their fat asses and search for sites themselves. Having said all of that...despite these idiots trying to get this bill passed, and others...there are some great archaeologists out there...who do care about preserving the past, and see a place in archaeology for people like us.
Just my two cents

ask 90% of archaeolgists how they got into the field??? Past collectors me thinks.
