This is the very first issue of Western & Eastern Treasures magazine when it was only called Western Treasures - 46 years ago.

I used to get free metal detecting magazines back in the 60's and 70's.
But I can't hardly remember their names. Whichever ones were distributed
by Peterson Publishing Co., and the Curtis Publishing Co., we got free.
My dad used to work for Curtis Publishing back then. We would get
"returns" which were magazines that were returned and credited
that didn't sell off the racks when the next months issue came out.
We got to keep all we wanted as long as he ripped the front cover
off and returned the cover. So I got zillions of free magazines when
I was growing up. Many good ones like Rod and Custom, Hot Rod, etc..
All different kinds, including many comics.
And the metal detecting rags were some of them.. Heck, I've might
have read something of yours in one when I was a young pup..
Course, I didn't have any money then, and couldn't afford the machines
I used to drool over in the mags. They had lots of treasure stories. I
remember that. If that mag says Peterson or Curtis on it anywhere,
I once had a copy of it most likely. But I don't know if they distributed
Western Treasures or not.

1963? That puts modern treasure fever at 46 years and counting.

Yeah W&E Treasures isn't owned by Peterson. I used to read all the Hot Rod mags back in the old days. Although I've been on hiatus for about three years I wrote for all of the treasure mags for 25 years or more and was field test editor for one for awhile. I'm about to start writing again. The editor of Lost Treasure keeps bugging me to do so.

Any of the ones that we used to get will have a "triple C" logo as far as the circulation
company. IE: it's like a big C with two little c's stuck in there with it.
Which stands for Curtis Circulation Company.
Peterson, and many of the others were circulated by CCC.
I think you once showed one mag which was CCC circulated, but I forgot which
one it was.
Heck, if they want to give you $$$, might as well go for it. :yo:

Very interesting.
75 cents was pretty steep back then.
I used to keep a subscription back in the 80s

I've got a slew of every treasure mag ever published, all the way back to 1961. Got about 1000 copies of the oldies including True Treasure the precusor to Lost Treasure.
