I got a call from a customer that his water heater had failed. His "little" lakeside cabin (9 bathroom,9 bedroom three story) had no hot water and guest were coming for the week. The place is 145 miles from my house up in the Central Idaho Mountains, so roadtrip time! We loaded up with everything we might need, including a replacement heater in case we couldn't get the defective one fixed in time for his guests.
We stopped on the way up and ate lunch, This is the view we had from my truck where we took our lunch break.

Not a bad view for lunchtime. Our trip continued up to the summit and across the 6500 foot high camas prarie. Those mountains in the background are around SunValley.

We crossed the prarie and started down to the lake where the job was. The road down to the lake is paved. but a little steep. Falk got the heeby-jeebies on this streach, but I can't figure out why. Looking up the lake to our destination...

Like a lot of mountain lakes, there are coves and fingers into the mountains, this is one of them.

You can see the house we are heading to across the lake in this photo. Under that water is where the old ghost town is located. I have hunted it many times while the water is low enough to expose the site. We made some fantastic finds there over the years. This is also the place where Elson found his spur. The town is about 60 feet under that pretty water at this time of year. The mines were located in the timbered canyon you can see in the middle of the photo. If you look you can see the green roof of the cabin at the bottom of the canyon, and some tailings from some active mining on the right side of the picture.

Well, this is what caused our little trip. This is a $ 8,000,out of warrenty, water heater that was not working.

After I examined it and did a diagnostic on the computer it has to run it, it turned out to be a sensor that was out and it only was only a $170 part. I saved him over 8 grand by being honest and heading back to the shop with that expensive replacement. The weather up there was in the 70's and it was a nice break. Thanks for coming along. DC
