This may be a dumb question but does it really matter about the tides???

Very rarely do I check the tides before I go, here lately I've just been hunting the wet sand. Is it better to go at low tide so you have more wetsand to hunt??? Most of the time I'm just lucky to get to go hunting. Somebody inform me!

I know plenty of stuff gets dropped in the dry but if they get wet then they get slippery and usually chilled somewhat so those digits gonna shrink. My take for what it's worth.

It only matters if you are a wet sand/shallow water hunter. If you are a dry sander it doesn't matter. I use a Tide Chart all the time and I usually only hunt 2 hours before low tide until two hours after low tide. This year with gas as high as it is I also only hunt when Low Tide is in the late evenings which puts High Tide in the afternoon. This gives me the most bang for my gasoline dollar as I can hunt walk where people were swimming earlier in the day and have a much better chance of finding jewelry. This method has been working out great this Summer!!! ;)

I read that one but it turned into another epoxy coating thread, lol

75% of all lost jewelry at the beach is lost in the Mine area (waste deep) hunting low tide would help..... especially if your beach has strong surf ....I have strong surf at my beach and it will knock you unconscious if you don't watch it.

Up here in New England we have 2 low tides and 2 high tides within about a 24 hour period, and they are approximately 6 hours appart. Most of your jewelry is lost in the water and it is easier to retrive at low tide since ours can vary as much as 6 to 8 feet in height depending on the location.. I will be moving to SW Florida and I have yet to figure out the tides there........it seems that the Gulf of Mexico does not change like New England and you only get about a 2 foot difference between high and low tide. So for you it would not make much of a difference, but for us in the north there is a big difference.

R & R tides here in the Mobile area are negligible. If you live up in the North east or even on the South Carolina coast a tide range can be up to 8ft or more so tide is important. But here in Mobile bay and along the coast the tide range is very little no more than a foot.
