This weekend was (and next weekend is too) Tip Up Town USA 2009 at Houghton Lake, MI

Tens of thousands come here to enjoy the snow, snowmobiling, ice fishing and lots of other activities...even a jump in the lake polar bear contest to see who is crazy enough to jump into a frozen lake...even the Queen of Tip Up Town this year said she too would dive into the frigid waters. To get an idea what this is like here is a link about TUT 2009:

This is an ideal draw for our community to help get us through the long winters. The hotel had about 75 percent occupancy and the Best Western had 100 % occupancy. Snowmobilers came here and had a lot of fun on the snow and even scooting high speed across the lake to see just how fast their machines would go.

Next week end it the rest of the event. Some people are really nice - some I wonder about. One woman when I was closing the pool for the night suggested we shut off the lights and go skinny dipping in the pool together. I guess when people come up here they leave their morals and common sense at home. Lots and lots of acohol is consumed during TUT keeping the bars busy and open, restaurants rake in money as people need to eat. Grocery stores, dollar type stores, and even Wal-mart rake in the $$$$.

I have yet to be able to go see or participate in any of these events...but the traffic sure gets crazy on our little 4 lane (2 in each direction) road running through the town.

Hope next weekend we get more people to come and enjoy the event.

The icy, cold weather doesn't seem to keep people away from enjoying or making fools of themselves! The economy isn't affecting those who still want to do their own thing but spending money in your town is good for the town's economy and for you, as it keeps you working! :) God Bless! Betty

Remember, Bro Pete, to praise God in all things and praise Him and Thank Jesus & the Holy Spirit for the work you do get! Things will change by asking God to move in your life and to give you favor by your serving Him faithfully! He is the only One who can change a person's life for the better, permanently, for He cares for you and not mere man, who only can make things better temporarily! The Lord God Jehovah loves us with an everlasting love! Give Him praise and love Jesus and see His mighty works done in your's and Sherry's lives and all His good and faithful children who are His servants! God Bless! Sister Betty

...some people are just totally BRAINLESS....On a serious note;I heard a story on Tip-Up Town from a number of years ago about 2 snowmobile riders being under the influence driving around out on Houghton Lake-they hit head-on;and one or both of them were killed:cry::(...It never fails-Get enough people together;sooner or later somethings gonna happen...Makes me wonder;HOW many of them rabble-rousers profess to be Christians??

seems some of these guys get on the lake with the snowmobiles and open them wide open to see how fast they can go. Being such a big lake that is fine...except...the ones that needed medical help were those who got the machines going real fast, hit a bump and flew off the machine hitting the ice and snow fast and hard. Heard there have been about 5 of these situations so far this year alone.
