TID question/issues

Hello,
I hunted two parks lately that were a few blocks apart. In both of these parks I kept getting readings in the 40's but would not find anything when I dug down. I would get strong signals either 40 or 42 or jumping between these numbers or the numbers would be 46 or 48. Even though I dug down, often up to 6 inches, nothing, but still I would get these strong signals.

Could it be underground pipes? These Parks set along creeks and I noticed several draininage sewers in these parks in the low areas.

I used noise cancelation, ground balance (in the low to high 20's) and started with a 30 sensitivity than lowered to 20.
Thanks,
Lee

It absolutely could be deep burried pipe, etc...

Try lifting your coil a good foot above the ground and swing over the spot. If it still sounds loud, it's big, ugly, and deep.

Also try to pinpoint above it and see if the number flash but no sound. It seems my machine detects deep pipes like this and the sound disappears but the numbers flash between +48 to -6. Usually there is evidence of pipes around so I pass them up.

I hope it's not a bag of silver buried or a 58 Buick at 6ft !!! Lol

I hear you brother! Happens to me also. I have noticed that the depth arrows will also deceptively indicate a very shallow target. What has helped me is to slowly raise the coil while swinging back and forth. Usually a strong signal will indicate a very deep target like a power line or pipe.

I have some areas where this happens to me. Most of the time you will find that the signal is just way to strong to be a coin. Once I get handle deep then I stop digging. If the signal is a little weak before I start digging, most of the time it gets a little stronger, the pin pointer starts to pick it up and it ends up being a coin.

First thought is that if you stop digging at 6-inches, how do you know that it is not a deeper target? It may be a silver half dollar and at 6-inches, you're only half-way there! Especially if you opened the hole and still get the signals. Second thought is to flip the 705 to Prospecting mode and recheck the target area. Prospecting won't provide TID numbers. But it will let you know if there is something really deep! HH Randy

Thanks For the replies/info.
The thing that was throwing me was how often I was getting these readings. Once, It was a very strong signal at the base of a tree, but when I dug down about 6 inches, I found a large root 6-8 inches around but kept getting the strong 40-42 signal. My White's pinpointer was acting up (ordered a Garretts, should be in this week) and the ground was like cement so I stopped.

Again what threw me was how often I was getting these readings.

Randy,
That is were I could not decide how far to dig and how deep the object was. I was afraid of digging down a foot and hitting nothing or digging that deep just to realize it was just a pipe.TSince this was a city park, I did not think it would be right to dig that deep.

How would switching to Prospect mode help?
Thanks for the help,
Lee

Yep, I am very cautious about digging large or deep holes in public areas as well. Glad you did what you did! Prospecting mode typically detects deeper than the Coin/Treasure mode. No discrimination, other than an adjustible iron mask. And there is no TID. But many times I find it "more effective" to use the Prospecting mode when isolating targets, opposed to Pinpoint. JMHO HH Randy

I've had the same same thing happen also!
I also get light wisper high tones but no TID with stock 9" coil, still trying to figure out what thats all about.
