Time Ranger false signals driving me mad

Hi bought new Time Ranger in May 2007, had detectors on and off for 36 years here in UK.
This detector has great depth and works well on flat land e.g. rolled fields.
But its propensity to give false signals is driving me mad. It seems if it touches a weed or even grass on the swing it will give a signal almost anywhere on the spectrum. This is spoiling attempts in woodland at at field edges. Put in all metal mode and it often does not register anything there on these false signals.

Have tried replicating by swinging way above ground, swinging into hand etc but does nothing then...which is good. Is only when actually in use sweeping across ground.

Any ideas or suggestions to solve this greatly appreciated.
Is there a known quality problem with some of the 8" coils?

chris if you are getting falsing like that just from bumps then I would say you may have a bad coil. You did not say what your settings were. Be sure the plug from the coil to the contol is seated in good and there are no bent pins.

I have had a similar problem with my Landstar. I have found that if the grass is wet and you get some moisture on the bottom of the coil when you swing, then every time that the damp coil brush's against the damp grass you get a false signal. My fix for the problem was to carry some rags with me to dry off the coil every now and again. This is the only detector I have this problem with.

many thanks I think that may be it. It has certainly been damp, infact soaking each time this has been a problem.
The woodland was close to a bog yesterday with us having had 3" rain in a day (near Stratford on Avon, google the photos of Stratford under Avon!!)

Will take it out tomorrow and replicate the problem see what happens

I had a brand new Lonestar and sent it back for the same problem. They gave me a new coil and tuned it to the detector. Only about two week down time.
