Tips on WOT coil

I've just bought a WOT coil for my Sovereign and am looking for any tips on usage.
I have calibrated the coil so that a copper penny registers 180.I've noticed in early bench testing that other coins register better than with my stock coil. For instance,a Canadian quarter usually registers 171 but moves up to 180-183.Is this normal? If so,will some junk move up into the digable zone?
Any tips at all would help. Thanks in advance

The composition on the metal in coins changes over time as well as may be different depending on where the coin is minted. Surface corrosion also affects the reading. Therefore, based on the metal composition and the amount of corrosion on the surface of the coin, you will get different readings. The new state quarters will give you a variety or readings.

I think you will notice that Canadian quarter was not giving you are great signal either if it was one of the newer ones. These have a differnt compositon of metals and I beleive i was told there is stainless steel in them, this also goes for the Canadain dimes too and some nickles. These will not give you a good reading and may bounce all over. If you were using a older silver Canadaian quarter it should have locked right on. Like bbsailor says too sometimes depending on what is around the coin too can make a difference.
