To bbsailor, which PI instrument do you use?

I meant to ask you earlier bb. As I indicated I don't have one yet but I'm working on it. Thanks and God Bless. I almost forgot thanks for the link for lock-in-amps.Wirechief.

My most sensitive PI machine is a low-power, modified C-Scope CS6PI that Reg advised me how to modify. I also has some help from Eric and other regulars on this forum. I am now operating it at 13.5K pulses per second (PPS) with about a 7.5 microsecond (uS) minimum delay for small gold jewlery. I had to make a custom coil (Hays Electronics coil housing) to operate it at those fast speeds.

As Eric explained a while back, you can either go for high-power, the brute force method or low-power and a high frequency to obtain more samples. Either way the results are about the same except for the size and weight of the batteries that you must carry around. Search for some of Eric's earlier posts about "high power", "low power" and "high frequency" PI machines. These posts are very informative.

The Hammerhead is a medium frequency, high power unit that can be built and be adjusted to be sensitive to nickles, which is a good indicator for sensitivity to gold. It is a good circuit to modify to optimize for the type of targets that you seek.

PS. Eric designed the CS6PI a few years ago. He supplied many good explainations about that machine on this forum.

Hi bb and many thanks for the response and I think I saw a detector like yours for sale on Ebay. Sounds very interesting and Reg seems to be a very knowledgable fellow as Eric is also. Yes I hope to learn a lot on the PI detectors and My boards should be in soon for the Hammerhead project. I'll be sure and go way back in the listings here on the forum and take a look at some of Erics Comments. I wondered about the power levels of these detectors and I kind of like the idea of a lighter weight unit and pretty much self contained I'm watching an earlier Goldscan model and would like to get it to play around with. The Garrett Infinium interests me but not too sure if it is all that great the way a lot of people comment on it. I get the idea that the coil is very critical just like an antenna for a transmitter. A metal detector to me is just about like a radio transciever. Ok bb I will cu again and thanks for your input and letting me know what your rig is. God Bless. Wirechief.

Hi BB Sailor, the Cs6PI is good to learn on, I had one and Reg helped me learn to do a few things and it was much more sensitive and powerful, used it at the Beach when I lived there. It was neat having the board with numbers to relate to LOL. I lost it in a fire and now have a Goldscan(that is mine below) that I learned somethings and Reg did an excellent job modifying. It is my only PI now.

Wirechief, the Infinium is a software controlled detector, I don't think you will have much luck with that. Eric's do a great job and you can work on them with his help and others, this is a great forum! Good Luck. Don

Ok Don thanks for the advice and Like bb said I come to the right forum and I can tell that people here are more than willing to help out. There is so much to learn here and I like the idea of being able to work on my own detector and Eric is more than willing to give advice. You know the ML are nice but too expensive for my justification out here. So I would like to pickup a Goldscan eventually. It's too bad about the Infinium because I like the packaging but thats the way it goes. Getting a top dog setup won't always make you happy so it is fun to have something your not afraid of digging into and experiment a little. Reg is also knowledgable I can see. Well I will cu guys later and I am looking forward to owning that first PI rig. God Bless. Wirechief. John's Detectors.
