Hi Eric
I have had problems with my Gold Quest the last twice I have been on the beach. The first time it cut out several times and the second time I lost power all together. I opened up the case to check if I had a bad connection and I was dumfounded when I saw several of the battery springs sticking outside of the battery pack I have included a few photo's so you can see what I mean.
Sorry to contact you through this forum but i have lost your E Mail adress

It looks like one of the batteries were installed backwards, causing an overheated condition of the battery pack. The unit may have still worked for a short while.

That's what may have caused that. If the plastic shows any melting around the springs, that's a good tell tail.

Most noticable is that it happened along multi points. Usually when it's caused from too long of cell, it doesn't let go all at once.

If that's the original battery holder, I have never seen one break. I have seen a lot of RS cheap ones go, but never the one on the Goldquest. Check the springs, see if one or more of them didn't overheat.

Mr. Bill

thanks M Bill
I don;t think I put them in the wrong way but of course I might have. The sides do seemed to have melted. I could not check for sure as i had alredy removed them

Hi Swansea Jack

It's a tough one to call as I'm here looking at a photo. That's the only way I can think of if the battery case shows signs melting at points. It's hard to tell because the first thing you do is disconnect the pack, then take out the cells. It isn't until afterwards do we think, hmmm. just what way were they.

I would have only taken one cell to be in backwards, and it would have heated up the springs, they in turn would have popped threw the plastic holder. I must have a half a dozen of them around the shop that have had the same thing with a reversed cell.

I have done it myself, boy things got hot real fast.

Mr. Bill

done that one before whoops gets hot and melts it down to look like the photo!! radio shack has them for about 2 bucks and with little arrows to tell which way to put the batterys in thanks larry ca
