Eric, I am sure I read a request from you on this forum about how may of us would be interested in a gold nugget detector made by you and what features we would like. I have a goldquest as you may remember and have tried in the NSW goldfields where it was just too noisy. If a GQ could be made with some sort of ground balancing then it could easily compete with the SD/GP as a new GP in Aus. is $5000.
Even if your GQ with gound balancing was twice the price, its still much better value for money. I love my GQ on the beach.

I agree that a GQ SS, with ground noise elimination so it could be used in Australia, would be sure winner.
I recently tried my GQ SS in the Goldfields of Cape York (North Queensland) and even though the noise from the ground made it too difficult to work, the noise was much less than I experenced when I tried my GQ SS in the goldfields of Victoria (The Golden Triangle and Gippsland). I had hoped the new DD coils for the GQ SS would have been out by now so I could have tried my GQ SS in Cape York with a DD coil ... it might just be all thats needed to eliminate the ground noise ... maybe! However I'm yet to even hear (be notified) if/when the new DD will be offered for sale.

Yes we certainly need a new detector that can go deeper than the minelabs. We also need large coil capabilities for those big deep nuggets and ground balance that is equal to or better than the GP3000.
I am interested in a posting that is way down the forum now where you stated that the pulse delay with large coils has to be longer than with small coils. I would like to know what is the largest coil that can be used on the Minelab GP3000. It appears as if the performance of the larger coils are not what one would expect them to be. The bigger coils are only marginally better (deeper) than smaller ones. What pulse delay would be reasonable for say a 30 or 40 inch coil?
Rob What are you doing in N Qland you certainly get around. I have just finnished reading Holthouses book on the Gympie goldfields. What a pity they built a city on top of that field. Lordy that place was rich.

I never did get around to showing you my
GQ SS when I last saw you at the PMAV
meeting in Victoria ... pity.
One good enough reason for being in the tropics is
temperature. At home in Cromwell we have
mornings of -5 degrees c at present ... probably
not all that different to what you are experencing
in Gippsland at present <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

Re Gympie, where I live, I'd love to dig up a few car parks with a backhoe. Nah, just open cut the whole place. Maybe in a hundred years or two more of flooding they might move the town. Until then a PI with discrimination to detection depth would be nice. cheers allan.
 
Hi Steve,
Short delays with large coils are not easy to achieve. To give you some idea, I can do 5uS with and 8in coil, 10uS with an 11in coil and 15uS with a 15in coil. In fact you could say, for coils larger than 8in, that the delay that is reasonably achievable in microseconds is the same number as the coil diameter in inches. To go further is a struggle.
Big coils will be noisier and you reach a point with small nuggets where there is no gain and the range can even be less.
