To Eric, Mr. Bill, or BBsailor-power measurement

I have another question and that is what value is the transmitted power to the coil measured at, microwatts, milliwatts or current? Also how much of the electromagnetic field is contained in a horizontal plane? Just curious, boy this is interesting! I'm just glad there are people here on this forum willing to put up with guys like me. Wirechief.

Eric foster is the real expert; I just tinker.

You can find a wealth of information on this forum by using the search feature. Just type in key words or phrases such as "high power", "high frequency" "coil current". A you read these older posts you will learn much and pick up on other key words that interest you and go from there. I have learned much from this forum. Eric is open to share what he knows, something not often found in a specialized technical area.

As a radio man, by your use of "73" you should have no problems understanding the subtle but critical relationship of pulse power; pulse width; pulse frequency; coil and coax capacitance; signal to noise ratio; receive window, and pulse delay as they relate to building a machine that is optimized to find the type of tragets you seek.

I use my PI machine exclusively on the beach so I don't know too much about other geological aspects of soil and minerals and their effects on PI machines, but I do know they do relate to using the right PI machine and the right coil in the right place.

You have come to the right forum to learn.

Thank you very much bbsailor and I definitely appreciate your feedback and yes I have been a Ham Op. over 22 years now. I tell you this is such an interesting subject and I hope to learn much here on the forum. Yes Eric is a good fellow for being so nice in helping others understand their instruments. I don't own a PI instrument at the moment and really can't justify big bucks since there is no gold here in West Texas. I was looking at the Infinium but the feedback doesn't seem to be real positive. So the best thing to do is build and learn from the PI-1 Hammerhead kit. I am so interested in metal detecting that ham radio has taken a back seat and I became a Tesoro dealer about 6 months ago. Again I thank you bb and hope to chat with you again. 73's and God Bless. Wirechief.
