Today beat yesterday's disastrous hunt all to hell. Went back to my favorite park and rounded up a little over four bucks in clad, a kitty ID tag, a metal trinket beer bottle, plus this nifty silver trade dollar. This park has a thick carpet of grass about 3-4 inches thick and a lot of coins are found right at the base of the grass. That's where this purty coin was found, right under a big tree. This park gets a lot of traffic with people laying or sitting on the grass all over the place, especially under the big shade trees.

When the Yeller Feller spied this beauty it went nuts and sounded like a battery of telephones going off and the cursor settled on "dollar" with a death grip. I thought at first it might have been a half or another Ike dollar like I found awhile back but when I parted the grass and began looking I couldn't believe what the sun was bouncing off of. Really made my day.

I keep thinking I'll stay away for awhile and let this park ripen up again but I just keep finding stuff. It's addictive.

Awesome find Bill. There is a local detectorist that found an 1878 one over here in Oz a couple of years back. They are worth thousands! Congrats.:clapping:

Sweet finds Bill an ounce of silver will be hard to beat & a good cash count too bet you cant wait to get back there.

I remember reading about somebody who found a couple of US Silver Eagle bullion coins right as I joined this forum. I was skeptical. The more involved I became in the hobby, the less I questioned the public's ability to lose anything of value.

A one ounce silver round is an unbelievable find and I am still amazed that after all the hundreds of thousands of targets you've recovered that there are still firsts to be found for you. Really great find!

Nice find Bill. Those modern silver rounds sell for a little over spot. About $15 to $17 on Ebay.

What mint is it from? Can you show a shot of the flip side?

You have to watch those trade dollars. There are a lot of fakes coming out of China. They are not marked REPLICA as the law states. Real ones can be worth a few bucks.

Yeah this ain't in mint condition. Has a few marks on it. May have been carried in someone's pocket as a good luck piece or whatever. Other than the Ike dollar I found earlier in the year and the small cache I found years ago with nine Morgans in it this is the first dollar ( or round ) I've found in all that time. One of the mysteries of detecting and why I like it so much. I did find some silver dollar slot machine slugs from Nevada a few years back.

BIll.

Yeah this park never ceases to surprise me but it's a hangout for the younger hip generation and you never know what they will lose. THis is the park where the tight rope walkers practice by stringing their rope between trees. They fall off every once in awhile and lose stuff.. You can see just about anything in this park.

Hey that's great. Mine ain't worth thousands but still a cherished find. There's an old park just a few blocks from my house where over the years three or four gold coins have been found but I ain't never found one yet. Oregon is a young state so old coins are at a premium here.
