Today's find

Found this Franklin half today, first silver in a few weeks. It's a good way to break a dry spell anyway. The strange thing is that I've found two halfs and have yet to find even a silver quarter. I'm not complaining, but what's the chances of that. Still learning my new detector, but things are getting easier

Just the opposite here. I've found lots of silver dimes and quarters, but never a silver dollar or half dollar. You must have a good spot to get halves that nobody else has found. I'd search the heck out of those areas because surely there is smaller silver around. I'd say you've learned your detector pretty well. HB

Nice find. I have been at it for two years now and still do not have my first silver. I have several war nickels, 12 wheaties or so and one Indian Head and one gold ring but still waiting for that first silver. Think I need better places to look!

This one came from a boarded up house that I've wanted to check for a while. My other came from a Local park in a place where no one must have been. It was kind of out of the way, but I knew that there was a WPA camp there in the 30's and also a baseball diamond. I've been pretty lucky with the big silver.

The belltone works great, especially for trashy areas. I still have the finer points to figure out, sensitivity adjustments and other things, but I usually dig up most targets that I can get a good pinpoint on.

Nice 1/2!! Still haven't found one either. Got my niece a 1000 about a month back, and on one of her first trips out she pops up a walking liberty 1/2. I never had beginners luck like that. Anyways, now she's hooked and I'm jealous.

You've got it pretty well figured out. Digging everything you get a good pinpoint on is usually the way to go. Just set your sensitivity as high as the ground permits, run on Jewelry or Relic mode, and dig everything that gives you a fairly constant ID. If the ID indicator bounces all over the place, it is usually junk, but if the signal is deep, dig it up to make sure. With a lot of experience, you'll know what you have before you dig 90% of the time, but that digging that other 10% has its rewards every blue moon. HB

I only get out half the time that I used to.
Congrats on the find Jeff!!
