today's hunt

After 787 coins I found my first silver coin today. A 1943 merc. Looked real good coming out of the ground. Also found a Titanium ring and a small silver ear ring. Tried a new spot and will definitely be going back there again. Gonna try another place my sister in law told me about in the morning. Sounds promising! The ring and merc and everything in that pic was found with the 11inch DD coil. Everything in the big pic was found with the 5 inch DD coil. Thanks for looking and HH! Gamma 6000...GB @ 62, Disc @ 20, sens@93

Hey Capt! Way to go on that silver!:yo: What area are you in again?.. the ground is rock hard where I am in NY. I have to leave the trowel at home and carry the jackhammer. That's a Gamma you're using right? I've got a Delta (as you know), but one day will pickup the rest of the Greek family. Just gotta find ME some more silver! Congrats - lookin forward to hearing about all the GOLD (and other stuff) you find!

Hey MickTwin, I am in central Arkansas, but I also occasionally hunt in Louisiana. Some mornings are below freezing but it usually warms up above 32 degrees. I handle cold weather very well and really like to hunt in the winter time... very few on lookers. I usually have whatever area I am hunting to myself. Gonna have a really cold weekend so even though school will be out, I won't be bothered.

The Gamma is an awesome detector... surprised more people don't have one.

hey capt where in La. do you hunt?

I have a sister in law that lives in Gonzales, between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. I used to live in Donaldsonville, Praireville, and Gonzales myself before Katrina blew us up to Arkansas. There is a city park in Gonzales I hit when I go to sis's house, and the state fair grounds, but only been there once. I found my only gold ring in that park in Gonzales.

capt., what part of Arkansas do you live? I frequently fish for stripers on lake Ouachita near Hot Springs, and do some swinging around there as well. HH jim tn

Silver is always nice to find! Rings, even usually junk one make my heart skip a beat. Very cool finds! Is the gamma a quiet detector in your area??

Hey stoopstroop, It depends. I assume you are talking about EMI? If so then yes, to a degree, Where I hunted today I was able to adjust sensitivity to 99 with no EMI, just the usual instability till I start swinging the coil. In other areas I have had to keep it down around 80 or so, sometimes less. It just is a "hot" detector. It still got respectable depth at 65. If my assumption is wrong, let me know and I will try to answer your question correctly. Thanks for the comment.

Yep that's what I was talking about! I got one on order as a demo unit to test and play with. I am excited to try the 10" coil stock and the 11" DD I ordered. Keep up the good finds and picks!
