Today's meager hunt.:garrett:

A buddy and I hit the turf today. Cool starting out, but nice towards the noon hour. This post isn't for clad hunters, as targets were few for both of us. I did manage to scrounge a 41 Mercury and 5 wheat cents. 2 of the wheats are toasted and 1 was a 19d and 1 a 22 and a 52. Sorry northern hunters, but we tried to give you a little incentive for the better days ahead for you all. But, there is always tomorrow. HH jim tn

Jim that's a nice looking Mercury dime! Yeah there's not much clad where you were digging, but the old coins are there to be found.:detecting:

The weather was near perfect today. It was a little cool starting out, but the calm winds and sunny sky made it all better. :)

I was at Safeway yesterday, was looking at one of those clear plastic money donations boxes screwed to the customer service desk. Low and behold, there was a Merc. dime sitting on top of the change, showing the none date side. The box was for donations to our local Children's Hospital, and I just didn't have the heart to ask them to open the box to remove it.

Would you have done it any different?

As much as I love silver, I wouldn't have, either. Since somebody wanted that particular coin, the customer service person may have thought it was valuable and wouldn't have, anyway. Kind of like those gold coins that show up each Christmas season in the Salvation Army buckets here in the U S. Certainly would be curious about the date, though. HH jim tn

A silver merc in the coin hopper donation thingy? Depending upon how well you know the kid behind the counter, and if he has the keys...I guess I would have asked him to get it out of there and dropped in 2 bucks ..that way it would be a win-win for everybody..I know the kids that work here at the local store here pretty good,..it would have been a teaching lesson.... .

If one wanted to do that..Go to a coin shop..They will sell you all you want to buy.. (Not directed at you John) just a general statement.

I think some of us detectorists really push the limit on what we will do for a Silver coin..Whether it be spotting one, or the places we try to detect knowing it just isn't a place we should be.. Limits people!!

Yeah...the more I think about this, your right Elton...anyway, a properly found wild silver dirt coin is definitely a sweeter trophy! :please:...I guess pulling one out of the kids hopper at the supermarket would be like shooting ducks down at the local park after you threw out a bag of popcorn, good idea at the time, economical way of a fellow getting a duck, good on a fellow for noticing an opportunity, but just too easy!..
