Todays morning hunt!:fisher:

Well-known member
My buddy and I headed off to some older dirt this morning that some of us had worked over pretty good a couple of years ago with a variety of detectors. Not sure about Chris, but this was my first time on the spot with my F 75, any version.

Chris set the tone for the day hitting a 36 Merc. ten minutes out from my SUV. We both hunkered down and got into the slow crawl along mode. He ended up with the Merc., 1897 I H and a toasted Buffalo nickel in addition to trash and clad.

I was an hour into the hunt before I got my 1st silver, a 44 Merc. That got me going and I then got a 925 silver ring, followed a little bit later by a 1910 Barber dime and then another nice 925 silver ring and my last silver was a 40 Merc. as I was swinging my way back towards my vehicle. Also got 3 40's and 50's era wheat cents along with a toasted watch case and a Yale lock.

1 curio came to light in what might be a fob of some kind. On the front is a ship and around the edges are three rope and anchors. On the top is the wording "feasible and worth the money". On the rev. are two words and the second is Chicago. Can't yet make out the first word. I found nothing on it doing a quick Google. Any ideas?

I had on the 5 x 10 DD coil and in de mode, sen 75-90, (little emi near some power lines, hence the 75 sen) 90 DST, no notch and 3h tones. HH jim tn

Perhaps a Medallion/Ribbon Hanger/Fob promoting the Makinac Bridge project? There were proposals and studies done for years, finally built and opened to traffic in 1957.

From http://www.mackinacbridge.org/history-of-the-bridge-14/

In 1923 the Legislature ordered the State Highway Department to establish a ferry service at the Straits. Within five years traffic on this facility became so heavy that the late Governor Fred Green ordered the same agency to make a study of bridge feasibility. The report was favorable and its cost was estimated at 30 million dollars. Some strides to get the project underway were taken but it was eventually dropped.

I don't think it is a watch fob as it has two top hanger attachments.. Maybe a medal for something or an event..

Awesome!!!!

Any chance that you can post some larger pics of the front AND back of this medallion? I LOVE easter egg hunts!

Awesome digs, Jim!

I'll give it a shot tomorrow stilpony. gravityrulz, thanks for your input and a most interesting piece of history. HH jim tn

The more I look at the reverse wording, the more unsure I get even about Chicago. But I am sticking with that word until I learn, if I do, otherwise. I am not sure a bigger shot will clean up the wording. The front, though, is correct. Thanks for everyone's efforts on this. Had a early 1900's chauffeurs badge that I dug a few years ago that several of us here worked on tracking down the hack driver. One possibility actually was John Dillinger, if I am remembering correctly. Anyway, a bunch of us had fun with it and I ended up getting a nice price offer for the badge. Of which, however, I still have. HH jim tn

Pretty heavy silver there again Jim!...as you know, walleye opener is tomorrow, look forward to your adventures on the water and in field!...:clapping:
Mud

Mud, it opened in Mn on the 9th, last Sat. Grand daughter graduating high school here shortly, otherwise I would probably be on the road headed north this weekend. Anyway, its cold and rainy there where we go, currently. HH jim tn
