Today's Relic finds

Found these with the X5 coil and Sunray X1 Probe. Site was so trashy that half of the time I was using the X1 to find the targets!

Bullets, bullets & more bullets...don't know if WW2 or earlier, any ideas?

A lead seal with the words "SOCONY" an acronym for Standard Oil Company of New York.

Yes the Excelerator is a concentric coil versus the Minelab 8-inch and Sunray X-8 which are both DD coils. I've never tried a concentric on either the Quattro or the Sov and interested to know if it is a better combo.

Hello Mike,
Just a thought: I've been using the Minelab 7.5 inch DD coil for almost a year here in the goldfields. I've only used concentric coils in the past when detecting for gold, on prior machines. My opinion for what it's worth is, the DD coil takes a little more getting used to when it comes to pinpointing, but then you can still obtain accurate pinpointing as good as a concentric coil. I also think the the performance of a DD coil is slightly better. I know of a lot of gold detectorists going for the DD over the concentric here in Australia. If you what to cover more ground, go with the DD coil, whereas the concentric ground cover is more conical in shape, covering less ground which requires overlapping of sweeps. (just like to mention, I still will overlap my sweeps if only marginally with my coil, just in case of missing any targets, but then, that's me).
Cheers Angela:):minelab:

Oh, one thing I meant to mention: It's interesting to note that Minelab have brought out the DD coil on their GP 3500 gold machine. It obviously says something for the type of coil used in this type of detecting. Better depth, sensitivity and accuracy.

The bullets you found are actually current.38-.357 cal. lead cast. All but a few are of the Lyman variety. 148 grain wad cutter. 168 grain round nose and 168 grain semi wad cutter of the Keith style with lube rings. This same selection also comes in .44- 454.cal. Hope this helps.

Hi Poptop,
Glad to meet someone who knows his bullets. I have some more bullets I need an ID on and will send you private mail. Thanks
