Today's ten silvers puts me at personal best!

Hey All,

It was snowing, wind gusts to 50 mph. I could notice the ground freezing as the sun set but put on the LED headlight and kept at it until I had a pouch full. Left with ruddy cheeks and stiff fingers.

Really not a very fun day for detecting but tried a site I've had permission for since this spring and finally gave it a whirl. Huge site and have barely touched it.

Nothing spectacular for today's finds but it did put me over my first year finds for silver.

Got ten today for YTD total of 165. I did 163 first year with the explorer. 98 last year. Better than 10% seated ratio last two years.

Best year for all types of nickels, barbers, seated, indian heads. Haven't counted the wheats but suspect they will also be a best. Less large cents than last year and no flying eagles or three centers. Tied record for gold coins: zero, but feel I'm flirting with the high zeros.

I've been tumbling clad. More silver dimes than clad, wish I could say the same about quarters.

I am not disappointed with my purchase of the minelab explorer.

Weather looks iffy, may get a few more days until freeze up. There were several months this summer too dry to detect so I suspect a better year could happen.

Thanks for looking everyone.

Chris

Hey Chris, might be interested in a Minelab. What kind of detectors have you used before, and what do you think the Minelab has over them?

It sounds like you may be done for the year too. I havent been able to get out for over 2 weeks as our ground is frozen 12 inches down, but James and Dale went to Mpls last Saturday as the ground wasnt frozen and did OK in the one park they tried with the old coins not that deep. There must not be any Explorer user there.
Good to hear you beat your record.

real nice finds . its pretty hard to find that many around here in one day. now when i'am on a hot site like that. the cold , gail winds , goose poop, standing water in low spots just dont' seem to bug me much!

I haven't tried any other modern detectors enough to have a valid opinion. Last one was a Compass Coin Magnum from 1980 or so. Mainly going by the opinions of others I trust who have tried different units. And the finds posted on this forum far exceed all the others, probably all the others combined.
Only downside to the explorer is weight and balance and difficulty of use for some people.
