Todays's and other hunts this week.:fisher: F 75 LTD2

Although through today it has been a little nippy with some nasty, gusty wind, I have ventured out and worked one old site every hunt and day this week.

Today I didn't get a silver coin, but did a lot of digging. In total, I dug 68 coins, which, for this spot is about 3 times more then norm. I ran into a slightly raised area and started popping a few clad coins and Memorials. Quite a bit of iron was showing up, but the 5 x 10 DD was working around it pretty good. I had hit one spot that I thought was probably iron as it was big. I hunted around the mound a bit and something kept nagging at me about that spot so I went back to it and thought I had a target isolated and dug. Low and behold, 5 or 6 coins came up in the first clod of dirt. About 20 minuted later mainly working with the pin pointer I had recovered around 35-40 coins. I lost track after 20 or so. Nothing deeper then 4" and the spot was about 15" x 6". There was several dimes and a few cents, but the spill contained a good many quarters and nickels.

Up to that point I had only managed 2 wheat cents, so I headed off in another direction and a few minutes later got a lock on 30 reading and it was a near screamer. Dug down about 2" and recovered a nickel size coin, but it had a little different look to it so rubbed some of the crud off of it and was pretty sure I was seeing a V. I promptly dropped in my water bottle and when I got home worked on it a little and it turned out to be a 1910 V nickel. A little while later I got a well worn wheat cent so started working the area and popped the 1900 I H cent. Got 1 more wheat after that and called it a wrap. The 4 wheats I recovered today were 19, 20, 40 and 45.

Mon.-Wed hunts yielded me the 4 silver dimes, the 43P war nickel and the n/d toasted Buffalo along with the 2 locks and 2 junk rings. This is the site that is not kind to coins, older or modern. One area, however, along a fence appears to have a little different ground and that area yielded me the decent condition 1910 Barber dime. The 2 Merc's are 1917d and 1923. The Rosie is a s mint and I think it is a 49. It came out of a low spot that holds water longer. I have been using the 5 x 10 DD coil all week. HH jim tn

Even though you didn't find any silver on your last hunt with a V nickel and an IH penny that still falls into the " quality " hunt category in my book. Those pocket spills are always fun to hit, still haven't found a silver pocket spill now that would be some real fun there. We're in the same boat as Rick in MI in the ground is frost and stuck inside, thanks for your posts Jim.

Hey guys, thanks a bunch. As best as I can recall, I have never hit what I would consider a good silver coin spill. Several times I have hit 2 silvers in the same hole and a couple of times 3 all close together. One time I did get 11 wheat cents all stacked together in a clod. We've had a mixed bag weather wise this week, cold and windy the early part and then upper 40's into the low 50's the last couple of days. Temps dropping like a rock tonight and two days coming of highs in the 30's and a chance for moisture including flurries. Then, working its way into the upper 60's next week. You all take care. HH jim tn
