What is this thing ? I dug it and it's 1 3/4 inches long and 1 inch wide, looks like brass. The banner across the front says "eludtuat nec mergitur" or something similar as it's hard to read. I have been told it's the slogan of Paris, France and means "it sails but does not sink". Any info out there ? Thanks, steve in so az

"Ville de Paris" is the city of Paris
and that is the Emblem of Paris.

Interesting Los Angeles connection:
An ad from a dry-goods store by that name in Los Angeles, 1902

...a French airship, Astra Company, France 1907
...and a trans-Atlantic passenger ship, General Transatlantic Company, 1866
both by the name Ville de Paris, but I didn't see a link to Los Angeles. Could be a baggage tag from one of these?

how it was used. There's no holes, no sign of attachment, was it just handed over ?? Thanks for the info, Steve
