Tones - Frustrating!

Hi all, does the pitch of the tone change when detecting in multi-tones on a different frequency?

I'm so used to my White's M6 language and have tried making the tones on the Deus try to sound similar, but it didn't seem to work.

I'm in the frustrating level of learning this Deus, the ground here is mild. I don't understand why large nails sound like a coin. Pull tabs sound like a coin and has a VDI # of 74(where as on a White's M6, pull tabs have a distinct lower tone and VDI #74 is copper/silver).

Thx..

In full tones both VDI numbers and tones change with the different frequencies unless you have the normalization engaged at which time the numbers will remain the same.

The Deus tends to register higher VDI numbers then most detectors. Coins all in the high 80 to 90's pull tabs in the 70's nickels around 53 to 56. The VDI numbers and tone will change when changing frequency. just play around air testing different targets while changing the frequency and then turn ID normalization on or off and note the difference. I find the ID normalization mainly affects VDI #'s with it on you will still get a slight drop in tone as you drop the operating freq. from 18KHZ to 4KHZ

Some iron items do sound like coins. Used to run a Sovereign GT and it was fooled the same way with different things. Gotta dig it. It does pay off. HH-Mark

Like with any detector, leave the numbers alone and just dig the repeatable signals. It's a "metal detector" not a "coin detector". I have seen guys leave awesome targets behind because they didnt like the numbers but the sound was good.

I agree takes time to learn it and you will click with it if you do not give up.

Just a suggestion but why dont you place a selection of common finds like say coins of your currency and also non desirable finds down on the ground with a space between them and then go dow the line and try and mentally take note of what each of the targets sound like,if you are still concerned about what each freq effect has on the tones try it in the various freq, that way you could get a grasp on how the tones work.

I personally went back to version 2 on both of my Deus machines,i find the audio far better and more dynamic in the tones,of course version 2 does not have full tones, never really liked full tones anyway as it use to fry my brain, much happier these days running a simple settings and it performs just fine on my roman/saxon sites. It works for me and we all have our favourite settings that we have fine tuned over time.

I think there have been some good info already posted. What I'd like to add is that Whites is very well known to be one of the better iron handing detectors. Not near as subject to false positives on bottle caps and nails and the vast majority I've used.

Thanks for all the support and info guys! :clapping:

Of course I'm going to continue with it and try to re-train my brain on the tones!!!
