Took the Aztec out again

We got up early today to do a little detecting in the Muscatine area near the Mississippi river only to find that the place we wanted to detect in was closed for a car and boat show. Not to be deterred we moved to a small town nearby that has a real nice sand tot lot. The park was a little trashy considering that this area had been hit by a tornado last year, but we had some really neat finds. The most interesting find was the 2 railroad spikes found almost dead center of the park. I'm still learning this machine but I'm having a blast doing it.

Looks and sounds like a good hunt! I like the RR spikes! Makes you wonder how they got there, Beale.

What is the Aztec? ANd don't tell me its a Mexican Indian.
I have never heard of a detector with this name. Who makes it?

The Aztec is an early detector made by Tesoro beginning in 1981. You can find the manual at the link below and I have included a few photos'

Aztec Manual

According to the manual it came with an 8 1/2" coplanar search coil, mine has the smaller 7" that was available separately.. I'm still learning how to tune it just right but I'm getting better.

I have found that it is alot more comfortable to carry and swing this style detector, the s handles on the new detectors don't feel natural. It is a little heavy but I need the exercise anyway.

Dr Steve isn't Aztec an expert in rear ends...Jer
