Tot lots

Any settings or programs that will help me get closer to the playground equipment. Besides turning down the sensitivity.

Mike,

This depends a little bit on what's in the tot lot - is there woodchips, gravel, sand, etc or is around the equipment or is it simply driven into the ground without any fill dirt? I've got one within walking distance that has a 8-10" bed of cypress and oak woodchips which was dug out last August at the beginning of the school year with a bobcat. The city replaced the woodchips with new woodchips :)confused:) so whatever's there is very recent. I've dug zincolns at 10" here but digging through chips is not really too difficult compared to dirt or even sand IMO...

Recently have been concentrating on virgin rental properties but when I did make it over to the tot lot I ran this program:

Disc 5 to 10
Reactivity 3
Notch #1 "00-15" -AND- Notch #3 "95-99" (maybe add a Notch #2 to help with aluminum trash but use caution here!!!)
Full Tones
Silencer 0
12 kHz (a little deeper than 18 kHz all other settings being equal) 18 kHz will be more sensitive to small gold so it's your choice
Sens 90
Manual GB
Audio Response 4

If you want to get closer to the equipment I would suggest running the 9" coil - Reactivity is going to be the deciding factor in how close you can get to the equipment without overload. Try to put the offending metal equipment in the center of your swing path so that the left and right endpoint of your sweep is RECEDING from the equipment. You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly once you give a few minutes of field time...

You may be able to tweak the ground balance at little bit positive - say if you average out GB in your lot at "80" for instance...turn up your GB manually to 90 or 93 (can GB go that high?). This in effect theoretically allows you to get a little closer to the equip but it will cost you some depth...
