tough call, went with the 70

After reading everyones posts and comments, reading the spec. sheets and pondering all winter long, I finally ordered the Cz70 today.
It was a very tough call for me choosing the 70 over the 3d.
It boiled down to a few very small things that swayed me.
Heck, a month ago went to order the 3d but because of the time zone the company was closed for the day.
One of my hunting buddies has the 3d and I have been using his cz5 on occasion, they are nice. Anyway, you can bet that when we are out together we will be comparing signals with each others machines, hopefully I will be the one smiling the most.
Stay tuned.
By the way, marriage is saved. If I can just find her that first diamond ring.

Well I think you made the right choice and predict a long and happy detecting life for you.
I used my CZ a lot on the beach and found many a ring with it. In the last couple summers I've been using a Sovereign Elite for the beach and the CZ more on land. Last summer I found that killer diamond ring you speak of...22 diamonds, $2000 worth. Since it was an anniversary ring, which my wife already had one of, I had it re-made into a new setting we bought and had the jeweler transfer the diamonds. She was happy enough with that find that I got a new Excalibur for Christmas because of it. She wants MORE of that this summer. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
And the CZ WILL get you that stuff too. I just do enough beach hunting that I wanted a waterproof machine and I do like the Minelab for the beach. But I will take the CZ out there any day as well.
<STRONG>Here's the ring I found...it HAD 24 diamonds, 2 of which were missing.</STRONG>

Here's the ring we had made, with the 22 diamonds. Cost of the new 14K ring AND the work: $245. The irony? Picked it up on the eve of our wedding anniversary...when she slipped it on we realized it was our 22nd. <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock">

Both will go as deep and have the same stability..
If you both have the same expertise they should be equal in this aspect..I hope you made your decision for the other various reasons...

Yes Dan, I do realize they are the same machine, anolog vs. digital. My old machine that I am replacing has the pistol grip which is very comfortable, when using my friends cz5 the S handle grip honestly fatigued my wrist after a while, perhaps it takes getting used to.
After mulling it over it just made sense, for $75.00
more I get:
1. more comfortable hand grip
2. superior notching system
3. water resistant control housing
4. 5 hour average more life span per set of batteries
5. more exact depth reading beyond 8 inches
6. night light
These are the reasons I finally decided on the 70

Many overlook the configurations and the CZ70 is more comfortable to many..I think battery consumption is debateable but in any case close.Notching is indeed superior and is certainly a plus. Couple drops of rain or hunting a saltwater shore and the weather resistant attribute kicks in. Don't hunt much at night, but even a dull day or perhaps trying to stretch a day hunt the nightligt sure is nice..Congragulations you have done your homework my friend and good luck.
I am sure many could make a case for the CZ3D so no E-mails please as indeed a matter of choice as I originally stated..

In comparing battery life I was simply going by the SPEC. sheets that Fisher had sent to me.
Battery life for a set of alkaline batteries on the CZ3D they say is 10-20 hours(approximate).
Battery life for a set of akalines batteries on the
CZ70 they say is 15-20 hours, without night light(approximate).
For those people out there that do not have rechargable batteries yet, this could add up.

GREAT FIND, Mike! That is a great story also! I bet if more husbands came up with that idea, they would be able to purchase a new detector more often without going through divorce proceedings. By the way, how do you like your new Excalibur? Did you ever pickup a straight shaft accessory? HH, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker
