hello,I have a bolt action 410 shot gun that i would like to trade for a fisher metal detector for my son i dont hunt any more so would like to trade my son is 13 and wants to detect but i dont have the money to bye him one and i would like for him to join me in the hobby so if anyone is interested please feel free to e-mail me or post a responce ok thank you paul. lewiston maine.

Paul,be VERY carefull! Some federal bureaucrat may regard that trade as an interstate gun sale between two unlicensed persons which is illegal. You could do this WITHIN your state and be OK with the feds provided there are no state laws violated. Please check first!

joe how would i get that post off here i dont want to get into trouble.paul

As he will have the answers whether in state or from state to state. Restrictions do apply. As far as your post your not breaking any laws but should be posted on a classified forum as not a forum for buying, selling trading etc and surely an honest mistake..

Relax Paul,You haven`t done anything yet;just check with a local gun shop on the laws.Frankly I don`t think you would get enough for a 410 shotgun for a really good Fisher detector unless you have a collectors item.I recommend a 1236X as a starter detector from Fisher;a used one would run about $250.You can do better but would pay a lot more for more complexity.Cheaper detectors, such as the 1212X, don`t have good enough performance in my opinion.

All weapons do.. Federal law prohibits private sales (trade) of any fire arm. You would need to go through a licenced dealer. Any gun shop will do it for you for a small fee.
But.. (playing devils advocate now) If you were to .. Say meet the person In person and trade there is realy nothing they can do about it.. Do NOT Ship it, You WILL get caught! The gun dealer can ship it for you. If you do decide to ship do not ship it in one piece. Disassemble the weapon and ship seperatly. This will get arround some state and federal laws on shiping firearms. Well i hope this helps you out.

(bloddy forum displays your ip..) Stupid to do this .. With a IP a hacker can do all kinds of wonderfull things.. But hey im not the admin.. Im just voiceing my 3 cents worth.

Woops i almost forgot.. If the weapon is not registerd you will not have to worry about that aspect,(it is required by law tho) So do what you want

you could try getting a very inexpensive detector new or used. that would give your son a chance to see if he's going to stick with the hobby. even the cheapest fisher detector could find the newer clad. your son could save what he finds and later trade up to a better detector. good luck.
