Transitioning from Sovereign to Explorer

BlackX

New member
I'm wondering how many folks went from a Sov to an Explorer and how they found the transition. If you're one of those folks who went Sov->Explorer, how did you find the transition?

In the past year with my Sov following posted msgs, I've noticed that a fair amount of folks that went to an Explorer, went back to the Sov but I'm presuming a fair amount didn't as well. I'm still trying to pick up an SE but in the meantime have been reading a lot about the Explorer, including the manuals for the II and the SE. It's been interesting seeing how much I've actually learned about the Sov from reading about the Explorer but I'm actually suspecting that, except for not being able to hipmount it, I'm really going to enjoy the Explorer (once I get my hands on one).

P.S. How do I set the font size on my sig? :)

I had played with it some but played with it some more today after reading your msg. Not sure it tells me that much relating specifically to the Sov->Explorer transition, especially considering that, as far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to take different ground or trash conditions into account. (It will speed up my menu selection timing but, considering I've been devouring the manuals, I at least get much of the concepts on much of the Explorer. (And I couldnt't find files for the older US coins like the various odd size (2-cent, nickel and silver 3-cent, etc. coints--might create some of those later.)) And, also as far as I can tell, the input is ideal readings that don't take into account the change in readings when depth is taken into account.

I suppose i was trying to ask more specifically what previous Sov users thoiughts/feelings were when transitioning ot an Explorer.

For instance, was the new "Pitch Hold" setting on the SE particularly helpful for previous Sov users?

I went to the Explorer from the Sov went back to the Sov got other explorer and the one thing that help me the most was Mike Moutrays web page were he said put all the circus nosies in the background Now I use an SE and I do run in pitch hold one of the reason I like it is it only changes on accepted targets I have got a few silvers from the threshold change and kind of reminds of the Sov I do still have a Sov xs and Excalibur and I think they will go as deep as the explorer I really like the tones of the explorer and it is faster on recovery I run sens manual 24 most of time Iron mask 22 sometimes less fast off deep on pitch hold on I mostly use the sunray x-8 really makes the Explorer stable in this mineralized ground and still find silver at 8 to 10" HH RonC

I went from a Sovereign XS2 to an Explorer XS about 4 years ago. The Explorer is much more adaptable for different places and conditions. I think depth is close. The worst thing about the Explorer is it's weight. I get a very sore arm if I detect for long periods. I love the Explorer and I'm pretty sure you will too once you learn it. Don't be afraid to try different settings and experiment with it. Dig everything at first and pay attention to the sounds especially. I have recently purchased a Sovereign Elite to use when I plan on detecting all day to relieve my arm soreness. Good luck with your SE and HH.Buy the Andy Sabish book, it will help.
