trash areas

i have switched to 8" coil in trash areas,am finding more targets, but wondering if anyone has any ideas on about how much depth i lose

The 8 inch will still pick up deep targets. I use an excellerator 5 inch in trashy areas and can't believe how many items I find that I passed up before with the 8 inch. The 5 inch hits targets 6+ inches easily also. If you don't have one I would suggest it over the 8 inch.

I would estimate that you are losing only 2"-3" in depth since I know I have dug a Token at 8"-9" before with the 8" coil.

I bought a Sunray X-5 for the trashier sites about 2 months ago. Due to demands from my business, I haven't had all that much "swing time" this summer, but that will change for the better this fall. I can say that even with limited use, this coil is OUTSTANDING !!!! It gives great depth for a smaller coil. I have found coins at 6 - 7 inches, and small trash items that were even deeper. The soil matrix will make a difference on depth as with any other coil, and I have used it in a variety of soil compositions in areas that I had previously hunted. Definitely worth the expense.
