I got permission to metal detect at my mother-in-laws house. To my amazement it was extremely trashy from construction debri like aluminum siding, nails, copper etc.

Not wanting to dig all that crud, I went to coin mode but it kept nulling out even with a slow swing so as crazy as this may seem, I went all metal mode no discrimination and just listened for the coin sounds. When I found something I could switch back to coin mode to confirm then dig. I actually did pretty good and got a hand full of clad in a very short time.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried using ALL METAL mode when in trashy spots?

Yep, had to do that this past weekend. The parks dept had removed the sod from several areas in the park. Not sure what they are doing. The spots are 10'x10' and one spot is in an area that has lots of iron. I hunted first in my usual disc pattern and found one wheatie, then went over it in All Metal and dug one more wheatie and a war nickel.
Like you said, the detector was nulling out completely.

I use all metal patern in conductivity, small stuff often gives a minus reading with a low/mixed tone, but iron will give a minus reading with a high tone, excelent for winkling out the small thin nonferrous stuff at depth on irony sites, the normal sized coins etc still read + readings and high tone.
All you do is dig the low/mixed tones, and check the high tones for a positive reading.
cross save this with your all metal preset program, and you can flick between the two,(all metal ferous, & all metal conductivity).
