What's the best procedure to take a metal detector on a airplane. I have no problem breaking it down and packing it between my clothes.
 
If you are travelling with someone pack part of it in their suitcase. That way if it's lost or stolen you won't lose the entire unit.
 
WHENEVER I TRAVEL, I CARRY IT ON WITH ME. BREAK DOWN THE RODS AND REMOVE BATTERIES, PLACE IN A CHECKED IN BAG. PLACE YOUR DIGGING TOOL IN YOUR CHECK-IN BAG, ALSO. OTHERWISE TSA WILL CONFISCATE IT. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY TRAVELLING.
