Traveling with my detector

frediver

New member
This will be my first trip by airline with my detector ( SurfProII )
Short of purchasing a hard case is there any decent way to pack a detector to be handler proof?
I have a large rolling duffel and my thought was to disassemble the detector into component parts, electronics, shaft, coil then wrap in a big towel and pack it all in the center of my bag. Other than popping one side of the ele. box as a pressure relief how does it sound?

Thanks

Disassemble it like you say, remove the batt Pak, latch one side, fold up something soft to prop the other side open put a heavy rubber band around the unit to keep it from flopping apart, then wrap the housing with bubble wrap and you can put it inside of your bag, wrapped up also if you prefer. I carry a couple of units inside of a bowcase I got from WalMart this way, bubble wrap protects them pretty good...Geo

I have a DFX and PI Pro by Whites and I purchased a hardcase so I can carry on board with me. That means I'm taking on two carry-ons but no one has said anything. I take extra batteries, when returning from Baja they wouldn't let me carry them on but they let me put them in my checked baggage. That is the only problem I've encountered after maybe twelve flights. Good luck....Loren

There was a post a good while back with pictures of a used compound bow case that that was used for a travel case for detectors. It was a good job.Maybe someone remembers it or you can do a search for it.

I've traveled many times to different places.I,m going to Aruba friday ,I use 2 detectors, break them down ,bubble wrap, ask foe fragile stickers put it on as luggage.I also use a scoop that brakes down into 3 pieces go's in the travel bag. Some places let you carry it on ,but really give you a hassle coming back thru customs. Good luck.
