Tried something new - and it worked!

...a very beginner idea, I presume, but I'm not going to argue.

Went back to a school lot nearby that I'd only hit a couple times with my Sov and not at all yet with my SE. After digging modern coin after modern coin, still only about 15-20 feet away from where I'd started detecting, and time running out, I decided to block everything but the top-right corner and see if I could find some silver. The silence was a real surprise but not 10 feet away got a nice quarter sound. After I'd flipped the plug and took some more dirt out, I saw a '56 Washington gleaming in the moonlight. That made me happy. First silver quarter w/ the SE.

Did some more quick scanning before I had to leave and came up with three more clad quarters. I really didn't hear that much difference between the silver and the clad but that got me thinking. I think I might try this every once in a while for specific targets to try to train my ear to hear the differences between close tones without all the other tones distracting me.

Found something else really neat there but I'll post that later after I get a pic of it.

Ive run disc patterns, but found in places like railroad tracks or REALLY iron ridden places that patterns didnt work. I could put a quarter on the ground and not hear it.... but when i opened up the disc it came thru much better. However in say a park where you just get tired of hearing aluminum it makes for a nice comfortable hunt.

Neal, are you saying youi don't hear any difference either?

I went back tonight to the same location again and again found 3 clad quarters and (part of) a silver quarter. It was a 1941 Washington that was sliced perfectly to cut off the date! Much closer to the edge and it would have obliterated the date. That was a neat find. (Searched around but couldn't find the rest of it.) Of the solid/repeatable bounces, it hit as low as 7-25.

Found 3 wheats too. One thing I'm starting to notice--at least for me--is that the SE seems to loves dimes. I'm pulling more dimes than pennies a lot of the time lately.
