Trip To Hawaii

EastCoast

New member
Hey All,
Being on the East Coast of Canada our water hunting is limited to the summer months. I have the opportunity of going to Hawaii for a vacation at the end of November and was wondering if there were any locals in Hawaii who could take me out for a day or two water hunting. It would be really great to hook up with some Th'ers and detect the waters in Hawaii. Any other helpful advice would be most appreciated as well. Please email.
Thanks,

What Island will you be on? Will you be staying in Waikiki? What detector options do you have? What scoop options do you have? Do you have a spring suit wetsuit 2/3 mm? I live on Oahu and detect on many of the beaches out here. I absolutely love detecting. Here in Hawaii there aren't really any detector clubs, so i don't see many detectorist detecting together. Here and there yes, but not much.

Ken,
I am in the early stages of planning the trip but planned on staying in Oahu and trying the Wakiki beaches. I have a CZ-20 and use a stainless scoop. I do have a shorty wetsuit and by the sounds of it I may need it for the water. Any recommendations as to accomodations that are close or located on Wakiki beach? I live here on Prince Edward Island and I detect the National Park beaches only in the summer(July and August). The water is very cold otherwise and a drysuit or neoprene would be your option then. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Scott

I would go with a PI detector out here. We currently have about 3 dozen metal detectorist in the Waikiki area, so the extra depth a PI detector affords will serve you better. I use a spring suit all year around. Summer mainly to prevent sunburn and winter protection from the cold. If you google Waikiki cams you will be provided with a site that will show three nice cams. My suggestion would be to concentrate your efforts on the beach and water fronting the Royal Hawaiian hotel and the Sheraton as Clive would put it, is where the dollars are and the numbers. Remember again there are many detectorist in this area, so your technique and skill with your detector is going to be the deciding factor on whether or not, you will find anything. Give me the dates you'll be here and your cell number, and i'll try and meet with you out there. Just to give you alittle excitement before hand, 2 years ago i found a 1.25 karat diamond princess cut solitaire, that my wife uses now, that was appraised at over $9000.00 US. So PM me with your info and i'll try and get out there with you!!!

Then you can coordinate a time and talk to them on the phone while they see you in front of the Duke. I detected there in 4-05 and had a great time. Looking forward to seeing your posts!
