Trying different kinds of places

Maybe try detecting places that most diggers don't think of doing. Try just going out and looking for oddball sites, places that don't usually pop up in your mind.

Example : Walk down alleys that have dirt and detect along the sides, behind houses. While looking, keep an eye open for garages that are open and detect the dirt floors in them. I have dug more than a couple Mercs in old garage dirt.

Example : Look for vacant lots - not just those that have an indication of having had some structure or such in the past. Try doing an old lot that is totally devoid of anything. Wherever there are places there were people to drop things.

Push your mind thoughts to come up with other places to hit. If you don't, then you may be stuck with the same old sites to do. And would it be worth it to give up those 30-40 coins you might dig in the usual spots in order to dig a couple silver coins - or more.

When you go out to seek places maybe go to an area, get out of the car & just walk around. I have found that I see a lot more by doing this than going by in a car. Plus you are more able to chat with home owners about detecting.

Push yourself to try places that you have not done before. What have you got to lose other than your time ?
Good luck, Steve in os az

Good advice, Steve! Wish I was able to go and hunt again like I used to....but alas healthwise I cannot! Maybe in Cuba, MO, when we get moved completely down there....but there have been detectorists detecting in Cuba and surrounding areas for years! Hopefully, they didn't hit every place and left coins to find!

God Bless!

Graw - I could go on & on about the finds friends & myself have made in "unusual" places. Silver coins, gold items, Civil War relics, etc. Try some different places out, Steve

Don't tell but that is what I did water detecting this year! I went where others don't! :)

I cannot even imagine asking a homeowner if I could detect their garage floor! imagine the starnge looks you would get!
