Turkey seasons

Turkey hunting is open in a lot of states now and it would be a good idea to maybe wear flourescent orange hats and vests when detecting open fields and woods til seasons close. Keep it safe. HH

Great idea. Although not many people look like turkeys(some might act like them) neither did the guy they shot out of a tree down here look like a deer

Some people go metal detecting while wearing red, white, or blue. Those are the colors of a turkey's head. Bad idea. It won't kill you to wear some orange. P.S. Got my first turkey of the season today. 23 pounder.

Livin' on the wild side

If you hear a turkey in the woods, don't walk to it! Its some guy sitting behind the busy end of a shot gun working his or her calls. And that new SE does kind of look like the neck of a turkey, now that I think about it? And if your not wearing head phones, the old copper or bronze items might sound like a hen clucking. The other bad thought is the turkey neck looking SE is carried about hip high, so can you guess what part of your anatomy will be in the shotgun pattern? OW! I don't think it would be much fun having number 4's pulled from your privates.
I never got one, but they did talk to me once or twice. Bow hunting for white tails I made Pope and Young, just by 1 7/8 points. Dam deer cost me another 75 dollars for all the paper work then.

Our season here in NJ has started out really soggy, but this guy's got two nice birds so far.

Camo'ed, with magnum load shotgun's, can put one in a dangerous position. It shouldn't, but there's always a low percentage of rectum's allowed to bear arms, no way to weed it out 100%.
I don't feel that someone metal detecting, or participating in something else in the outdoors, really is in any danger. Hunters getting shot during the gobbler season are always mistaken for a turkey, because they on mimicking a hen's calling, while being concealed in camo. Hen's are not the game, so why doe's that happen?
Don't make and clucks or yelps, while your detecting and you should be OK, LOL.

On a side note, I heard today, thet Tenn. repealed their law, which forbid carrying concealed weapons on state government property. Love the good ol' boy thinking, especially living in the republic of NJ.

Not for nothing, I'am a big turkey hunter & also love my hobby of metal detecing, but we should not be in the woods with the turkey hunter. If I were working a bird & some one spooked it I would be a little anoyed, The whole thing comes down to respect, if we see a car parked & we think it could be a turkey hunter then we should respect there rights & leave & move on to another spot. This way no accidents will happen. This is only my opinon, but thanks for letting me vent my fealings. GOOD LUCK & GOOD HUNTING, have fun & have some great finds.

Hooray for Tenn. Also, toms and jakes also make yelps and clucks. Still no excuse for not identifying your target. Just wanted to help protect fellow (and sister) detectors. HH

Going after my 2nd bird tomorrow morning. Just last year I was coming out of the woods from a morning turkey hunt and met a realtor showing a group of people the property I was hunting on and they all had on blue jeans and bright shirts. I told them there were other hunters still in the woods and pointed out their bright clothing and they all laughed at me and continued into the woods except one. She agreed with me and went back to their van and waited. I told the property owner about it and he had already the realtor to stay out without an escort. Needless to say the realtor lost the sale. Just my 2 cents worth. HH

Hooks were inch and an eight, 22lbs., 11 inch beard.

Thanks, I'm in New Jersey, use to hunt Penn. and NY, but between the license cost and gas prices, I stick home now. Retirement does have some drawbacks, LOL
