Two Firsts For Me 09/22/13

Had a great hunt with D, B, and T on Sunday. Got two Relic firsts for me...an Eagle Artillery Button, and a "Butt Plate" for the stock of an old rifle or Musket. Also got two pretty nice Eagle Cuff Buttons. The backmark on one cuff button has me puzzled since it says "EXTRA" and another word partially obscured by the folded down loop that ends with a "TY". Any help with a timeframe on the buttons or the Butt Plate and ID's on the other finds would be welcomed.

Also found lots of lead, a small oval shaped brass plate "?", 3 rimfire bullet casings, an old pocket knife, and a few "Whatzits".

Tailgate shots.

My Finds. (Had a couple more finds in the pics above that I somehow missed getting in the tailgate shot).

Thanks! Now I can date it about 1860, plus it is an officer's button according to what I see on the Internet source.

Nice finds. Looks like your on to a good spot!

Great finds. Stay on that spot and dig those deeeeeeeep targets. A plate awaits you. Which one of your detectors are you using ? CCH

Always use my Deus these days...am spoiled to the light weight, flexibility of frequencies, reactivity, wireless concept, etc. I know I could do well with my other machines, but I have so many ways to fine tune the XP as I hunt with changing soil and iron conditions, I really can't imagine using anything else in the Relic field. As we clear out the iron and shallow non-ferrous metals, we are beginning to make some deeper good finds.

A plate...I can only dream of that. We keep thinking one of us will hit one. Maybe soon.
